Gone are the days when seeing a grey-haired woman in an ad campaign was a rarity - now they're popping up as regularly as the prime minister's holiday snaps. For the third season on the trot TK Maxx have used an older model, and this autumn it's the wonderful, 85-year-old Daphne Selfe. On a more technical note, I'm not so keen on the photography. The cropped-off feet look slightly odd - this could be the work of Mr That's Not My Age. Definitely not Annie Liebowitz. But that's a minor quibble. I'm actually getting worried that older models are going to become so commonplace I won't have anything left to blog about.

ReplyDeleteIt's very encouraging that advertising is beginning to reflect the diversity around us -- gratifying to think that bloggers might have had something to do with this. Selfe is wonderful, even with her feet partially amputated.
ReplyDeleteI saw her in person at a talk and thought she was even more attractive in real life.
ReplyDeleteI notice many of the young 20 somethings are dying thier hair gray. When I was in my 20's I only felt sorry for older people and no one would every think to dye their hair gray. Maybe we finally are becoming fashionable slowly.......
ReplyDeleteShe looks great. I hope this is not just a token trend and a longer term change.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Kerry.
ReplyDeleteMe too - hoping this is a trend that will grow. She is simply gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteDiscovered this blog last week and am now confirmed follower - and grey-header. Love my grey which I keep in short crop so I do not look like crazy witch woman. Numero uno loathing of mine is women in 50s who still insist on being blonde. Own it, ladies.
ReplyDeleteHello and welcome, Annie!
ReplyDeleteWhen (not if) older models become commonplace, you will just have MORE to blog about. I, for one, would love that.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, dare I ask you what you think of women in their 60s who still dye their hair brown?! I do this because my natural colour is dark brown, plus my lashes and brows are still dark brown, however the sun in Spain bleaches my hair, which doesn't suit me! I agree that it's great to see older models and let's hope it's more than just the latest "trend".
ReplyDeleteTo my surprise its possible to be nearly 70 and still naturally blonde -its just not as bright as it was.
ReplyDeleteAnnie,
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't waste my energy loathing anyone. Live and let live. We are free to do anything we want with our hair.
Isn't that lovely.
Daphne is in a wonderful YouTube video called
ReplyDelete"Fabulous Fashionistas". It is making the rounds on Facebook and is so inspiring.
