Wow. M&S have gone all A-list. Their latest ad campaign shot by Annie Liebowitz looks more Vanity Fair than Great British high street. Rumours have been flying around the internet for some time now that Helen Mirren was involved but I'm astonished at the all-star cast including: Grace Coddington, Tracey Emin, Karen Elson, author Monica Ali, the fabulous Nicola Adams (I cried when she won a gold medal at last year's Olympics) and the uber-stylish singer Laura Mvula, amongst other successful British women of every age. I won't go on, but Dannii Minogue and Twiggy are starting to feel like the poor relations.

Featured in today's Sunday Times Style, the campaign - which must have cost a small fortune - is further proof that with style director Belinda Earl at the wheel, the M&S juggernaut is back on track. I've seen the autumn/winter collection and it is much better, there are 90% more dresses with sleeves and coats that I actually want to wear. Though there's still room for improvement. I can't really see anyone buying into their neo-punk offering but I expect Earl will fine tune the womenswear collection as she gradually gets this monster business into gear.

Helen Mirren tells the Times, 'As women pass the age of 45, it doesn't mean they're not interested in fashion any more. You don't have to start looking like a granny.' Too right.
Not a granny (and not M&S but you get the picture) Photo: Wenn |
Last winter I bought two boucle skirts from M&S and lived in them! There are some really good finds to be had that are stylish and more importantly, ageless..

ReplyDeleteFabulous! What a great campaign, and they'll get the benefit. Helen is so bang on - no one wants to look like a granny, even a granny!
ReplyDeleteAs a yank, I am not aware of this fashion label at ALL, but adore the picks, and love the fact that not only are +40 being advertised AT, but with- and showing that sexy and style are still strong by using this gorgeous diverse bunch!
ReplyDeleteoooh need a closer look at Grace but loving the pink coat so far...
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I love Tracey Emin and she looks amazing in the Red and Nicola. Don't recognise everyone so am off to investigate.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the clothes, if M&S can do me a decent pair of black crepe trousers for the winter with my shorty legs I will be very happy.
That coat is to die for. Chuckling at "the poor relations." Helen looks great in anything or nothing.
ReplyDeleteYes, quite an arty ad! Helen can do no wrong, and Grace is one of my favorite Women of A Certain Age, Style Category.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's an impressive ad campaign. It would certainly get me to take another look at M&S.
