Clothes for chaps

The Chapar chap

'What have you got me into this time?' asked Mr That's Not My Age when I volunteered him for the new menswear service The Chapar. Aimed at erm, chaps who don't like shopping online or on the high street, The Chapar (the name given to high-speed couriers on horseback in Ancient Persia) offers a personal stylist who calls the customer to talk through his fashion issues. To be quite honest, the Blog Widower doesn't need a personal stylist - he's got me - but eventually the stylist managed to pin him down to discuss sizes/colours/brands and, after several tries, the Chapar box finally arrived. I bet the Persian's didn't take their delivery away again and leave a calling card, ahem...

Mr TNMA's new Hentsch Man shirt.

This is a try before you buy service and there are lots of decent labels on offer: John Smedley, Albam, Sunspel, Levi's. I was quite impressed by the selection sent for Mr TNMA and he did buy the grey Hentsch Man shirt (above, first pic). Chapar is definitely good for stocking up on basics. And although it removes the opportunity for impulse buying, it's perfect for someone like Manhattan Brother who loathes any kind of shopping and does it only when the clothes are falling off his back and he needs an entire new wardrobe.

Do you think this is an idea that'll catch on? How do your husbands/partners/brothers shop for clothes?

  1. Interesting idea! I usually order for him online or take him to one of our local shops when they have the sales. He is a bit of peacock, but doesn't shop a lot, though he can drop a lot of money when he does! I think this could be a good thing!

  2. Hi,

Great post and good timing too (see link). Did Mr. TNMA enjoy the packge? Would he do it again?

Here's a link to a Wall Street Journal article from this past weekend. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324108204579024832931744354.html?mod=WSJ_Magazine_Middle_OffDuty

  7. Thanks for the link Lisa, I'll check that feature out.

Lisa/Debbie - Mr TNMA says he might use it again for basics but, although it might not always be apparent, he does actually quite like wandering round the shops!
