After an earlier post, another blogger commented that she thought Hobbs was a label worn by women who had stopped having sex. But, over the last few years under the guidance of creative director Sandy Verdon (ex-Jaeger), the British brand has slowly upped its chic appeal. Gone are the floral printed linens and longer-line jackets of yore, in come CĂ©line-inspired separates and footwear designed by Olivia Morris. I'd wear it and er, well, I'll leave you to figure out the rest...
I do like their nw3 range - good fabric and great cut - especially in the dresses, but haven't quite got into Hobbs mainline yet...
ReplyDeleteChic? I must say, that's something I've never particularly had as a style goal, and a good thing too, as I'm the one likely to trip over and ruin the effect.
ReplyDeleteThe leopard skin booties are right up my street though. Just send me the money or the shoes, and I'll be happy to do my duty and wear them.
Cheers,

That commenter just articulated what I couldn't put my finger on about Hobbs!
ReplyDeleteBut if you say that they have upper their game perhaps I might walk in and have a browse which I admit I never do there...
Ha! Brilliant! If I wore that first outfit I could almost guarantee my sex life would come to a grinding halt - beige, knee length and made of sack cloth and accessorised with what appears to be flesh coloured tights...WTF?! xxx
ReplyDeleteHilarious description! But those shoes definitely have appeal.
ReplyDeleteThese things are fab, I'd love to wear them all!

I love that Celine-esque look (though find it hard to wear myself). I'm not familiar with this brand, so can't comment on the previous assessment, but we have a few brands here in the US that would certainly apply to. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBit too minimal for you eh Vix - but what about the leopard boots and faux fur clutch?!
ReplyDeleteI love that first outfit. I find the footwear kind of meh.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of pieces on the Hobbs site that I would buy and wear. And some lovely shoes (the Eva Laceup could be a candidate to replace a much beloved pair of similar Anne Kleins that were loved TOO much for over a decade). Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove a bit of leopard but no, the heel's far too thin and there's no platform - not convinced! x
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely great description for a certain style of clothing!
ReplyDeleteI have not looked at Hobbs for ages. I used to wear their suits a lot when I was working. Their jackets fitted well.
ReplyDeleteHi there! The leopardprint bootie is cute but would prefer a lower heel! xx
ReplyDeleteThat comment is hilarious - they look like they would be good for workwear for certain body types so sex appeal is probably not relevant. They aren't sassy designs but we don't always want that for certain offices! But they are certainly more interesting than say TM Lewin. I bought a couple of their wool polo necks last year and found them to be super as basics. For the most part though, I have never been tempted by their suits or casual wear - just not the right style or shape for me. Do think the grey outfit here would be a chic alternative to a suit in an office.
