Lovely Lauren Hutton on the cover of French Elle. Must get hold of this 'Women Who Make Us Want To Be Older' issue - but you can read all about it over at A Femme d'un Certain Age:
Then there's Ari Seth Cohen's shoot for Grey magazine with style icon di jour Linda Rodin. Beautiful:
My latest grown-up style icons blog post for Boden features Jane Birkin.
And I know I'm a bit late to this, but here's the Guardian's 50 best-dressed over-50s list. Most of the usual suspects crop up - but I was pleased to see Kirsty Wark, Emmanuelle Riva and Vogue's under-the-street-style-radar fashion director Lucinda Chambers in there.
And Nick Cave! The 55-year-old rocker was one of the stars of my very first blog post and has still got it. He once said, 'I can't even imagine how I could do a gig - just the physical energy involved,' and I know how he feels but... 'As soon as I walk out on stage, there's something about the Bad Seeds that's energizing. Like a defibrillator to the soul!' After seeing him play in New York last week, I can confirm that that's still the case. It's rocking out, not rocking chair for this Antipodean musician/poet/genius.
Who would you include in a best-dressed list?
Have a lovely weekend. I'm off to figure out how to get Stones in the Park tickets without paying more than the cost of a flight to New York.
Fantastic post....some of the most stylish women I know are way post 40! One particular lady I know is near 70, and never a day goes by that she doesn't look like a style icon! She knows more about fashion than I ever will, and I look to her for her wealth of fashion knowledge! x
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great reads - I'll be busy this evening! Linda Rodin is so gorgeous, one of my aging role models for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh WOW. Kristen McMenamy has been my favourite model forever! She is the reason I let my hair go natural. If I had been there, I probably would have flipped. I still keep photos of her August 2011 Italian Vogue cover "oil and water" in my iphotos because the photos are so arresting.
ReplyDeleteI'd nominate Jeanne Greenberg-Rohatyn - always a fantastic dresser and looking amazing at 46. And Cynthia Rowley, at 54.
ReplyDeletehighlandfashionista - oh I was quite excited, Mr TNMA had to restrain me.
ReplyDeleteI saw that Guardian list - great wasn't it? Good ol' Nick Cave for getting in there!
ReplyDeletegreat post ! i love the linda rodin picture and jane birkin of course !

I always think it is funny when people say "you dont look 72" as if there is a certain look that goes with certain ages. It is only ones "SPIRIT" that makes them yooung or old to me and their look is SECONDARY!!!
ReplyDeleteI must remember 'defibrillator to the soul.' Very clever post and the photos are inspiring and energizing.
ReplyDeleteI love Lauren Hutton and as always, she looks beautiful here. It just bothers me that there are no wrinkles on her forehead!! Botox or photoshop? Either way it makes us "normal" mortals feel somehow "less than" if you know what I mean.
