Post-Downton Style From Elizabeth McGovern
In the name of research, for my latest Boden blog post, I dragged Mr That’s Not My Age along to see Elizabeth McGovern’s band Sadie and the Hotheads. We both agreed that the 51-year-old has bags of enthusiasm, and looked fantastic. In fact, everything was going well until she started singing – and later dancing. Actually the singing wasn’t that bad, let’s just say the lyrics were a little too cod-country for my liking. And if there is such a thing as ‘mum’ dancing, McGovern has got it down pat. Anyhow. The highlight of the evening was when Brendan Coyle (Downton’s Mr Bates) said excuse me as he brushed past the pair of us. He left early too.
But this isn’t a gig review this is a celebration of style, so click here for more on Lady Cora without the corsets.
I would love to have been there...it sounds like a memorable evening..the good and the bad. One that would bring many laughs!
ReplyDeleteShe's so stunning, but it's nice to hear she's not perfect!
ReplyDeleteHi there! Yes 1-0 to her style v singing, I heard her sing on Alan Titchmarsh's show and I wasn't overly impressed!!
ReplyDeleteSo jealous you bumped into Bates.... And great post on the Boden blog! X
ReplyDeleteSo funny that Mr. Bates left early. Elizabeth is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteShe may not be the best singer around but she's a great example of a beautiful, stylish woman with the confidence to reinvent herself, let's face it the Hollywood offers tend to (forgive the expression) dry up for women of 'a certain age'.
ReplyDeleteAnother note worthy rock chick is Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley. Cool, casual and sexy and she'll be 48 this year!!
Became a fan of Brendan Coyles after viewing Larkrise to Candleford. You are so lucky. You breathed the same air as he did.
ReplyDeleteVictoria - I'm with you on that.
ReplyDeletec-ing - this is the second time I've breathed the same air! Saw Brendan Coyle shopping at Liberty once, very stylish man.
