Before monochrome mania sends us all cross-eyed, I thought I'd better show you these lovely stretch cotton dresses from Modern Love. At £350 a pop, these frocks aren't cheap but when I met designer Sarah Arnett she told me about the brand's Slow Fashion approach, 'The idea is that it's better to save up, buy one beautiful thing and be satisfied. Shop for modern clothes the way you shop for vintage. We aim to combat consumerism, which may not be the best business strategy ever but that's what we believe in!'

The two dresses are ok, liking the first one more.
Only wishing for longer sleeves, but then, that´s just my opinion.
I love the dresses, but can't imagine how they can justify the price... who are they paying how much to produce those lovely garments?

Modern Love is one of my favourite Bowie tracks - I love the first dress! I've been trying to do more of that lately - buy less things but better quality.

ReplyDeleteI did an "oh, wow!" as the first dress popped up on my window. What a gorgeous print. I do believe in buying quality but these prices are a stretch for me. Still, lovely to look at!

ReplyDeletethese are carefully made limited edition pieces. If you related the amount of care that goes in to a Primark garment to it's price and then further related that to the quality and beauty this pieces offers you'd appreciate the price.
It's not necessarily that affordable, but it is what something this lovely and unique costs in this world.
This woud make a special occasion very special, but a Primark rip off (of some talented designers work) would be more affordable but much less worth it.
Hmmm, I seem to be the only one who prefers the second dress! I can understand buying quality, but tastes and styles always change, and then that gorgeous dress just looks dated. Until it comes back in style 30 years later!

ReplyDeleteConsumerism is out of hand. Sadly for many it's a measure of self-worth. This company’s philosophy and its clothing are in sync - simple and elegant. It probably won't make them rich, but their consciences should allow them to sleep well! Warm regards.
