Grown-up style: Kirsty Wark

This is not the first time Kirsty Wark has appeared on That's Not My Age. I once took a photo of a pair of fancy pants she was wearing on The Review Show. Who needs Pinterest when you can record stuff off the telly, just like the good old days? Anyhow. There's a great feature in today's Guardian where the 58-year-old newsreader talks fashion, feminism and age (Wark has just finished a novel questioning why women of a certain age go unnoticed) - and tries on a few designer frocks. This set me thinking about how she's the perfect TNMA woman: intelligent, hardworking and interested in style. So, I'm enlisting the Power of the Blog to call upon Kirsty to organise a proper profile piece. If it can work for Tavi Gevinson....

  1. I like the way you concentrate on the individual woman instead of an age. I find myself much more impressed by women who aren't defined by a number.

  2. Nice to see a piece on Kirsty. I was lucky enough to be one of her guests at a charity event last year, I sat next to her all evening and she was charming, intelligent, funny and very generous. If only more young girls would aspire to role models like Kirsty rather than vapid reality tv 'stars'.

  3. Yes! An interview with Kirsty! We in the US are unfamiliar. Broaden your brand, woman!

  4. I must look at the Guardian today - thanks for mentioning it. I never thought of Kirsty Wark as anything but two-dimensional, but she is always incredibly insightful in interviews. And she's written a novel? I must open my eyes!!

  5. Ah yes, a very intelligent, stylish woman. I saw her on one of those antique shows recently and she bought a vintage dress in a crusty old shop. A few days later on the show she appeared wearing it, and it looked fab on her. I like her.

  6. t\The go unnoticed 50+woman stereotype is changing and we bloggers contribute to that change.

  8. I love Kirsty Wark. I would tune in to Late Review (RIP) if she was presenting just to see what she was wearing. My reaction is often an immediate "NO!" followed by a considered "yes, that's fabulous" because her clothes choices are so edgy. Its also unusual to see someone on TV dressing in a way which is not overtly sexy or signalling authority but rather using clothes in a decorative, playful way.

I can also testify to the brilliance of her baking skills as she has an annual charity cake stall at our local Farmer's Market. It usually sells out of stock by about 10.30am.

  9. I love Kirsty Wark and like others always waited to see what she was wearing on Late Review. (How do we complain about it being taken off air?)

  10. Well lets star with a true photo of Kirsty, fed up with these photoshop/touched up photos..more honesty from these women would be more appreciated by 'normal' women.

Watch her most evenings when she hostes Newsnight, she looks good for 58 but has a wrinkled face. Ida/Judith

  11. ganching - I think Late Review is on once a month on BBC4 (?) Which isn't great but I suppose it's better than nothing.

Fashion for Aliens - can you put in a good word for me next time you see Kirsty Wark at the cake stand?!

ida/Judith - she does look good for 58 and agree with you about the abundance of photoshopping, though I think that was down to the Guardian not Kirsty Wark.
