That's not a pair of skinny jeans
That's me at London Fashion Week doing the cheapskates version of Miu Miu's double denim. In a recently resuscitated old coat (it's from a label called CH.IND that I'm not even sure exists anymore) and pair of twenty quid Uniqlo jeans. My favourite leg shape is slim, not too skinny, and that's about as easy to find a loaf of Mothers Pride in Gwyneth Paltrow's kitchen. Not so long ago, I realised that the only jeans I owned without holes at the crotch were from Uniqlo. So I bought another pair. They're the Straight Skinny Fit and they're just as good as more expensive styles I have from Acne or J Brand. Only problem is the dye isn't fixed so whenever I wear them I end up with dark blue hands and what looks like a five o'clock shadow. Just don't invite me round to your house if you've got a white leather sofa.
What kind of jeans are you wearing at the moment?
Gap Sexy Boyfriend and also Gap Always Skinny.
ReplyDeleteI'm sup[posed to be wearing boyfriend jeans, but on my hefty chunk of leg, they look more like skinny jeans. Bah.
ReplyDeleteThat's my favorite shape of jean too. I'm quite partial to NYDJ which offers several slim leg styles. And as far as I can tell, no dye transfer.
ReplyDeleteTried Uniqlo when we were in NYC and they looked awful on me for some reason. I love my Paige skinnies (a cut they no longer do) and my favourite pair ever were True Religion straight-legs. Trying to find a new pair of jeans but not having much luck at the moment ...
ReplyDeleteI love it when you post photos of yourself, and today is no exception. Always chic!
ReplyDeleteI am also a fan of Uniqlo denim—in my case the skinny ones. They seem to last forever and forever! I wonder if there's a way to make the dye fast. I think there's something home-ec like . . . I tend not to look good in straight legs, but I still love the Bootcuts and Flares from J Brand.
ReplyDeleteI don't actually suit skinny jeans but I bought a pair of low skinny jeans from H&M which for some reason fitted more like a slim straight leg and which I was delighted with. A lot like the ones you are featuring here. I'm going to try and buy a backup pair now that I've totally fallen in love with them. They're quite rigid, leak dye on my Converse but I forgive them.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll sit on the floor with you if you like ;o)
I didn't realise Mother's Pride is Scottish. Does that mean you are?
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing M & S Eva jeans, i.e. for someone "curvy", which is surprising because I have a BMI of 19.
M&S Lara (for 'apple shapes'). Much roomier at the middle.
ReplyDeleteHi there!! Love this photo of you, keep them coming! I'm currently rotating between a pair of Uniqlo stretch black skinnys, Gap Always skinnys and River Island black skinnys all of which are surprisingly comfortable.
ReplyDeleteGoogle 'set dye' and vinegar and you'll get a list of ideas involving vinegar and salt. Haven't tried it myself.
ReplyDeleteDitto, and my hands are always a fetching shade of 'varicose' at the end of the day....
ReplyDeleteThese look rather good and I'm always trying to find the perfect pair of straight leg (not skinny) jeans. I have quite a few Levi's (where the heck does the apostrophe go in this one?!) in my wardrobe which would be perfect had I not put on a ton of weight since I bought them :-(
ReplyDeleteBecause if my very small budget, I am currently wearing a slim cut jean from Coldwater Creek...I really like them...very comfortable and even look great a work. You look perfect for covering Fashion Week...very cool!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of jeans do I wear? I don't. Haven't worn jeans for years. They look OK, sometimes even quite stylish on the right person, but there is a same-ness about them, to my eye. I'm sure they will never go out of style, although they will probably never come back into style for me.
ReplyDeleteCheers,

Gap curvy straight- similar to you, they're about as skinny as I go. They also suffer from the dye/blue hand problem though, even after 18 months of wear!
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing J. Brand 8112. They're skinny/straight. And a nice mid-rise. Great washes too and never rub off on anything. You look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI really love your look and this post!
ReplyDeleteMy jean rotation is between Gap Sexy bf (various blues, grey and ecru), H&M Girls black jeans, M&S Petite straight leg and rarely Gap Always Skinny. I think the straight leg is a great classic.
My favourite jeans are definitely NYDJ. They are the only ones that are high enough on the waist and suit my small waist to hip ratio. They have a womanly cut.

ReplyDeleteGreat jeans - you look fabulous. Love the double deniming too.
ReplyDeleteI have a pair similar which I bought in France at a half price sale - 17 euros from a real cheapie 'high street' chain... it wasn't Monoprix but I cannot for the life of me remember where it was!
Hang on, I'll go and look at the label and check.... - CAMAIEU.
Think they do the dye to hand transfer thing a little but getting better. S x
You look fabulous. I must give this brand a try. I've got Gap skinnies and Levis curvy/straights and like them both.
ReplyDeleteAlways great to see you! I only own a pair of hand-painted bell botoms, I flogged my skinnies on eBay a few years ago and never bothered replacing them. x
ReplyDeleteWhat jeans am I really wearing? Asking myself that question too, as the brand says nothing, but the model is skinny, not tight skinny.
ReplyDeleteTop shop Kristen, they are high waisted skinnies. These look great though, might have to give them a go. Katie B @ Minerva Collection – UK Handbags & Jewellery
ReplyDeleteI just can't get away from skinnies! I have tried and failed. Even tried to wear peg leg tweedy types trousers from Zara, but keep returning to skinny style. I need help.
ReplyDeleteI am wearing some Wallis Petite jeans, however I bought them several years ago when the Petite leg length was 70 cms. I'd love some new ones, but they've suddenly changed their Petite leg length to 74 cms. Hello? How many of us have suddenly grown 4 cms over the last few years?!
ReplyDeleteI like what I also think of as STRAIGHT jeans, not "skinnies" or "jeggings."
ReplyDeleteBut what I'm really craving right now is a pair of huge bell bottoms! :-D
Looking good, kiddo! I wear cheap jeans but since I've discovered Nashville denim artisans Imogene + Willie I've been dreaming about owning a pair. At 500 a pop, it's a dream that gets the snooze button.
ReplyDeleteMy sister just won a pair of NYDJ and is loving them. I'm tempted to give them a try out now, especially after seeing a few others here raving about them.
ReplyDeleteTo my surprise I found a straight pair in the new M&S body shape range. Not perfect but good enough. That said I never like new jeans at the beginning and it is after they begin to wear that they become my favourites. But I like the look of those Uniqlos and I will give them another try. The last time I tried on Uniqlo skinny jeans it was the time of very long length and ultra low waistlines. So glad that trend has dwindled away.
ReplyDeleteGreat look - I've never seen why double denim was such a fashion faux pas - done well it looks very smart. I love your dark chambray jacket!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the market for a new pair of jeans - I've all but stopped wearing them (too many winter roasts!). Good tip about Uniqlo - I shall try them - fed up of being asked to shell out over 200 quid for denim jeans. I quite like the boyfriend style and have seen other bloggers in good versions by GAP.
As a shortie with fat knees jeans have been a nightmare over the past couple of years. Skinniest are a total no no and the gap curvy straight short are no longer available so really need some help. And I too am not up for £200 jeans
ReplyDeleteWell you did a GREAT job pulling this off. So jealous you got to go to London FW.

I need new jeans and I agree with you on the fit. Off to Uniqlo I go. Xx
