No, that's not a spelling mistake, that's the name of Helena Bonham Carter's mum. And here she is looking absolutely gorgeous earlier today - first, dressed down at LAX airport and then wrapped up warm at Heathrow. Don't you love the camouflage maxi skirt? Extensive research tells me that Elena Propper de Callejon (or Mrs BC senior) is a French-Spanish psychotherapist.
When the 44-year-old actress won a Bafta, she dedicated the award to her mum in a very touching, if not a little long-winded, acceptance speech, ‘This is for all the best supporting wives — the Queen Mother herself, and my mum. There is no doubt that if my father were alive, he would have given it to her. She was the best supporting wife you could ever have wished for.’ Ah.
Here we see Mother and daughter shopping together before the Oscars:

And finally, Elena Bonham Carter treats a sulky Victorian boy to a day out at the Chelsea Flower Show:

Who needs an Oscar when you have the coolest mum in Tinsel Town?
Photos: Daily Mail, Zimbio and fuck yeah helena bonham carter
How wonderful! Love the last image a veritable feast.
ReplyDeleteAs for Galliano, I'm sickened. At first I hoped beyond hoped and then saw the vid. Went cold.
It will have an impact for UAL ref his CSM & LCF alumni status!
So glad notable honorary degrees at my LCF graduation was Margaret Howell & Emma Hope - they'll never be any bother
xx
Elena has tons of style, doesn't she?
ReplyDeleteI think Helena looks a bit Johnny Depp-like as that Victorian Boy.
HB-C has such a beautiful romantic face and with her ringlets always looks like she should be in a massive frock with a parasol in some BBC Jane Austen adaptation.
The tension between what you THINK she should wear and what she DOES wear makes her signature look a success.
If it's not got a sequin on it, my mother won't wear it *sigh*

Don't they look brilliant together, I love the last two photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos, Helena's mum is as fabulous as she is.
ReplyDeleteI love how she refuses to have her teeth whitened or conform to expectations. I wasn't keen in her Merchant Ivory youth but i love her now plus she's the same age as me, hurrah xxx
The last pic is my absolute favourite! You can see where HBC gets her strong style personality, can't you?
ReplyDeleteLike Alison C I was thinking the same in the last pic Helena looks a bit like Johnny Depp. Her and her mum are great. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteHi my dear-what a lovely post, they are a fabulously stylish mum and daughter and love their own quirky way of dressing, it so suits them. Look forward to seeing your teddy bear coat too!
ReplyDeleteLove it especially the last photo....I love a little eccentricity xx
ReplyDeleteMy mother's name is Barbara. I guess I should be happy that I wasn't named either Arbara or Hbarbara!
ReplyDeleteAli - yes, she does look a bit like Johnny Depp, and he's good friends with Tim Burton and HBC, ooh maybe there's something in that? Your mum sounds quite glamorous, mine lives in elasticated waist slacks.
ReplyDeleteVix - yes, I like her now she's ditched the costume dramas, much more fun!
Thanks Arbara!
Her Mum looks GORGEOUS. And has a white grey bob just like my Mum. Hooray.
ReplyDeleteHow perfect did Helen Mirren's hair look on Oscar night? x
They're both fabulous! The last picture is my favourite. Hope you're having a great week xx
