Fashion Bin: Laced-Up-Leather



Do I need to say anything at all about this grotesque phenomenon? Oh, go on then...see if you can guess the designer of this Laced-Up-Leather (LUL) jacket. And it's not Roberto Cavalli, though the sleazy, Euro Trash styling is right up his alley. Actually it's Michael Kors, purveyor of chic, understated fashion and he's not the only one with a bit of a LUL in his spring collection. That's Not My Age spotted both a jacket and a skinny leather pant at Rag & Bone in New York (can someone please tell me what has happened to that label?) and a pair of shorts for only $1095 at Rodarte for Opening Ceremony. Wild West Hooker-chic anyone?



If you're wondering who in their right mind would wear this tat, how about Cher circa 1986? Woody from Toy Story? Wagner might be in need of a new stage outfit now that the X Factor Live tour has kicked off? Frankly, I'd rather spend an evening at La Perle with John Galliano than wear this stuff, so there's only one place for it...

    I can't help but love Cavalli, so divinely trashy and cheap.
    Those shorts look remarkably like some I had along with a matching halter top from TopShop circa 1990. I was often seen round the clubs of Birmingham in that delightful get-up. xxx

    I like your fashion bin. It should come out more! I have spotted a worrying trend for lace up leather, especially trousers, naturally coming out of Milan. I'm trying to block it out of my mind...who wears this rubbish? Miley Cyrus? x

    ugh! indeed. definitely fashion bin worthy.
    as for cavalli, i call his designs "delightly tacky". i have fond memories of wearing my snakeprint cavalli dress while strolling around miami. so appropriate!
    i'm not a cavalli fan, but i do like some of his things. as for my snakeprint dress, it's quite pretty actually- one of his least tacky concoctions.

    I'm not sure about lace-up leather, I can't make up my mind whether I like it or not.

    I thought the shorts looked quite nice....

    But then, I wear Weird Fish fleeces and jeans out of The Factory Shop.....*mwahahahaha*

    styleodyssey - some Cavalli dresses are quite pretty, I particularly like the seventies snake print vibe.

    Ali - nothing wrong with a factory shop, or is that the name of a clothing line? And is Weird Fish not a Pixar movie?

    I don´t like short/ long leather jackets at this certain age anymore. Too shiny. The colors of both are real bad.

    I think it's how you put it together .. you can wear most things if its worn discreetly and comfortably if you are not comfortable it probably looks crap :) xx

    That's funny,I saw the pic of the jacket and immediately remembered a very similar jacket in red which I had in the 80's,used to wear with red leather skirt and boots to match.Ick.
    They say if you wear the first time around you are too old when it comes back again.Thank God for that.
