Carine Roitfeld collaborates with Uniqlo

Japanese brand Uniqlo continues to champion French Chic with the Carine Roitfeld Collection for autumn/winter 2015. The global fashion director for Harper's Bazaar and former editor of French Vogue has said that she's dressed the same way for the last 20 years, so I'm thinking: pencil skirts, boyfriend shirts, couple of chic dresses and a cheap tuxedo, all with the trademark mussed up, rock and roll edge.

When talking grown-up style with the Guardian, Roitfeld dismissed the mutton dressed as lamb scenario with the following advice:

'As you get older, you must never share your wardrobe with your daughter. You have to wear something for your age or you will look really ridiculous. There are too many 50-year-olds dressing as 20-year-olds. You have to look every five years at your wardrobe and say: "Is it OK to wear this with my legs? Is it OK to wear sleeveless with my arms?' Then you have a cull. It's not nice but you have to do it.'

Oh and anyone know what's happened to Ines?

  1. It's easy for her to say since everything on her is perfect ;)......,,but basically I agree with her; too many women dress like their daughters.

  2. I'm glad she said it and from now on, I'll cite her quote.
She looks great in everything here.

  3. ...except that last outfit's neckline...or rather navel line is a bit much but ok for a rocker chick at an LA Club late at night

  4. She's all messy, dark, rocker chic - love it. But not on me, I'm all pale and curly and warm : >

  5. Nor me Patti. Although I agree with her that we should look at our wardrobe and ask....does this outfit go with my legs, arms.... face, now?

  6. I see evidence that she doesn't walk the talk. Not uncommon.

  7. Interesting. Look forward to this one. I was not as impressed with Ines;s last collection as I was with the first one,

  8. Sorry , but I think she looks less than perfect i.e. gross in every single outfit .
The only one that could have passed the mutton test is the leather skirt / black shirt combo but the ankle strap shoes cheapen the look.

Can't stand seeing acres of thigh/midriff/ décolletage on older women .
    It looks desperate.

Ines NEVER looks desperate , only elegant and stylish.

  9. It's a toughie, on an 'ordinary' woman of her age most of the outfits above would look terrible but she does have the figure for them, irrespective of her age.

  10. Inimitable. I don't want to dress like her but I want to imagine that I dress like her, and to bring just a tad of her rocker look to the suburbs now and again;).

  11. I think those lace up heels look pretty awful. That said, she has a certain runny mascara look that she can definitely carry off. But if her Uniqlo collection is leather pencil skirts and uncomfortable shoes, I certainly won't be buying.

  12. She can certainly carry it off. I love the idea, as I've always had a bit of the Rocker thing going on, however surreptiously, but I think I'd look pretty silly dressed like this in the 'burbs. See-through really should not be done over the age of ....well....never really, now that I think of it. Always leave a little to the imagination, as Mum used to say. BUT I think if I looked like her, I'd dress like that too :)

  13. She looks great but, as grown-up women, shouldn't we have developed our own style without attempting to emulate that of celebrities?

  14. So true, Vix - but stick a celebrity name on a range and it sells (apart from Madonna for H&M) x

  15. I read somewhere that Inès would like to design a menswear or children's wear collection for Uniqlo, so perhaps that's her next step ..In any case, I for one am sad if the arrival of Carine Roitfeld marks the end of regular collections from Inès. I've bought a few pieces from each collection so far - stylish, affordable, good quality, modern clothes which are easy to mix with other items in my wardrobe.

  16. I'm far too cynical to actually think she looks this good, what with photoshop, etc.... that said, I do think she looks fabulous. She can wear these clothes and they suit her. I hate crop tops but (at least in this photo) she looks good. My biggest problem would be the heels. A couple of hours, mostly sitting at an event but actually walking around town, uh... no.

  17. There are some women who can carry off the extreme look, such as CR here, and Iris Apfel; but the majority of grown up women don't want to look like that. I'm not even sure CR does carry off everything here. Ines and our own AW are much closer to what I aspire to, both in their choices and how they put them together.

  18. Well, some of her clothes almost make it but I wonder is her advice only for us lesser mortals & not herself. Or as my Granny used to say, hasn't she hot a mirror in her house?

    Miaow....perhaps!

  19. Thank god for an older women with a style beyond suburban granny AND who knows how to pull that off without raiding her daughters closet. Thank god. I need more courage in this direction to keep it fresh and inspire me to take care of my body. Ines? my god, she's just given up. I was shocked by the meanness of her Uniqlo collection.

  20. It's been about 20 years since I first noticed Carine Roitfeld and her iconic style. My reaction two decades ago - well, I thought she looked like Iggy Pop! But the more I saw of her, the more I appreciated her style. And, sage advice - such as not to wear very much jewellery between the ages of 40 and 60 as it draws attention to less than supple flesh (too true!). And, now I think Carine looks like Patti Smith (without the poetry). Rock on Carine you wear it well!

  21. I do love her style! What I will take away from her quote is that by asking ourselves those questions, it gives us - mere mortals - the chance to develop our own style that is both as current as we wish it to be (or not) and appropriate to our lifestyle. I think there's room for everyone and now it's Carine's turn.

  22. Can anyone help me understand the question--what has happened to Ines as well as the reply comments. Has something happened to Ines? Please fill me in...Truly I have no idea what you are all talking about!
