Quote of the week: Diane Von Furstenberg

Diane Von Furstenberg's wrap dress celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and in an interview with the Guardian, the designer and women's rights campaigner said, 'I am so lucky. Old enough to have danced at Studio 54 and young enough to be involved in the first design collaboration with Google.' Wow. Imagine that.

Discussing the legendary wrap dress she adds, 'This dress is so much the essence of my brand. We sell confidence. Coco Chanel, Donna Karan and me dress women in jersey because we know it feels great and lets you get on with your day, and we care about that.'

I've always fancied a DVF wrap dress. In fact, I was looking at the summer maxi version as a possible 50th birthday outfit last time I was in New York - and now we're having a mini-heatwave in London, I'm wishing I'd bought it. Confidence and comfort are so important, don't you think?

  1. I love wrap dresses and DvF's dresses are unique. She is an amazing woman and designer and I look forward to own one of her creations in the future.

  5. I've never been able to wear DVF's wrap dresses; lovely as they are they're designed for taller women than I. But she's a genius.

  6. I remember watch DVF on the Mike Douglas show promoting the wrap dress. Even at 13, I looked at the models and thought, 'That's genius!' I bought the first wrap dress that I could afford (probably a few years later) and I've had at least one in my closet most of my adult life. I currently have three, and like their predecessors, they never fail me. IF there was a Noble Prize for fashion they should give it to Diane Von Furstenberg!

  7. She's an interesting person. I also love that her look is constant but not dated. I am visiting NYC right now and walked the High Line today discovering she is one of the original sponsors.

  9. I have nothing against DvF and she is still very pretty, but I don´t understand the wrap dress and would simply have no use for one.

  12. Everyone does look good in a wrap dress. There is a definite difference in the strong female designers - how they dress women. I think it is confidence. On their part and the wearer's

    Self knowledge.

Get the dress! (next time it is in your sights)
