Style at any age: The Sapeurs

Photo: npr.org

I love The Sapeurs. The Society of Elegant Persons of the Congo, an inspirational group of working class men from the city of Brazzaville in Africa - who after a hard day's graft, switch to dandy-mode and go out on the town in their brightly coloured suits, shiny shoes and smart hats. You may have seen them in the Gentlemen of Bacongo book published a couple of years ago, and now going for a small fortune online:

Or in the brilliant new Guinness ad:

'In life you cannot always choose what you do, but you can always choose who you are.'

  5. Absolutely brilliant Guinness ad! I discovered this book while with Ari Seth Cohen in 2010. It sits of my coffee table as we speak, and inspires me daily.

  9. Lovely imagery of elegant gentlemen. Just to note that Brazzaville isn't a small suburb in Africa any more than Paris is a small suburb in Europe. Brazzaville is the capital of the Republic of Congo and has a population of about 2 million people.
