Fabulous Fashionistas out on DVD

The Fabulous Fashionistas cake

Since the screening of the Fabulous Fashionistas film back in September, the show's subjects have become superstars. They appear in fashion shoots, talk at conferences, receive fan mail from around the world and have cakes dedicated them. To celebrate the launch of the Fabulous Fashionistas DVD this week, I was invited to a special viewing. And yes, I blubbed again. It's the bit where Jean talks about her husband that is so incredibly moving. Actually, this was more than just a special viewing, it was an extravaganza. Organised by Fabulous Sue Kreitzman, there was a Q&A session with director Sue Bourne and the Fashionistas, an exhibition of outsider art, and cake.

The lovely Jean.

The audience was pretty fabulous too:

And Baroness Trumpington was in the house. Discussing the huge reaction to the show the 91-year-old peer and catalogue shopping addict said, ' You should see my morning post now!' When asked if she'd ever considered packing work in, the Baroness replied,  'I've been going to the same hairdresser for 30 years, my worry is that he might retire before I do. And anyway, when you're a politician, life is one long retirement.'

I've  been lucky enough to hear the Fabulous Fashionistas (apart from Gillian, who sadly is unwell) in conversation a couple of times now and admire their resilience and don't-give-a-damn attitude. On Botox, Sue Kreitzman commented, ' Once you start it's like the Forth Bridge, you just have to keep on going, lower and lower, and then start all over again.' And Daphne Selfe added, ' I don't want a young face on a wrinkly body. What a waste of money, I'd rather go to the theatre.'

According to director Sue Bourne, the show isn't going to be repeated by Channel 4. So if you missed it the first time round or are looking for a Fabulous Christmas gift, the DVD is available to buy online from Wellpark Productions
