That's me looking pensive, in an autumn sweater. This weekend is all about preparing for the Mirror Mirror conference - my talk about fashion, ageing and culture with Ari Seth Cohen on Tuesday evening. At London College of Fashion. It's going to be fun. We have some surprises lined up and have decided to turn it into a conversation, rather than a formal academic lecture. Now I just need to step back from the blog and figure out how to explain the premise of That's Not My Age, intelligently, to a roomful of strangers. Without polishing off all the complimentary drinks first.
As well as planning what I'm going to say, I need to plan what I'm going to wear. I've had my haircut especially, though it's looking pretty dull at the moment and I haven't had time to have the colour done (I have a few blonde highlights, bi-annually). But then I read a fantastic feature on Salon and thought hey, I'm a Silvery Still In The Game Dame - sod it, embrace the natural dullness and let the, er, blog's personality shine.
I just wish my hair was more like this:

Other preparations include: trialling a few beauty products. I've been sent Linda Rodin's Olio Lusso which I'm slathering all over my face at regular intervals in the hope that it will make me look as fabulous as the New York fashion VIP (now there's someone I can look to for style inspiration for my seminar) and some White Hot shampoo to brighten and boost grey hair.

The photograph of moi was intended for knitwear designer Edina Ronay's #pinkfridays blog post. I was asked to model a cashmere sweater for Breast Cancer Awareness, 25% of the proceeds go to charity, but because of the Malware Wars last week, they haven't been able to use it. And yes, this was for charity, I sent the sweater back.
If you can't make the talk and have any questions you'd like to ask or areas you think we should discuss, please leave a comment below. I'll make sure we cover it and feed back to you next week.
As Linda Rodin says, 'You can’t chase youth. You’ll just look older with a face lift.'
Oh, fab event! Where can I get a ticket?! Btw, pink looks great on you x
ReplyDeleteI would love to come and hear you talk - can I just turn up on the night and pay only for that event?
ReplyDeleteLove Linda's quote--SO TRUE! Good luck with yiur talk--just love Ari! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteCarole & Jeni - there's a link within the post to LCF site where you can buy tickets. Or email:

You look great! I particularly like the pink against the black and your hair's lovely as it is.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the talk and look forward to reading about it soon!
I booked a ticket to go to the event and then realised I would be in France so had to cancel. Look forward to hearing all about it next week.
ReplyDeleteThat bright pink's a lovely colour on you and your hair's so sleek and glossy! hope the event goes brilliantly! xxx
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteI wish I were coming too, but its a long way from the southern hemisphere. Looking forward to hearing about the event.
ReplyDeleteThe quote " 'You can’t chase youth. You’ll just look older with a face lift.' " is very reassuring........ if only I could lose a few kilos! Warm wishes.
Your speaking engagement sounds exciting. Good luck and enjoy the complimentary drinks!
ReplyDeleteAt 46 the grey is starting to show up on my very dark very short hair. Having never coloured it, I'm determinted to go grey gracefully.
How I wish I could hear you and Ari! This photo of you is beautiful...you look lovely in this color! Go out with confidence...women want to look their best at any age and the most confident own who they are...like you! Please share with us in detail how the conversation style goes!
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear what you think of the white hot shampoo. Please let us know. I have heard good things but have yet to find one better than Kiehls.
ReplyDeleteRodin's quote says it all. Chasing youth is a waste of time. My view on aging is to look the best I can for who I am today, not who I used to be. I just don't want to look like I've given up!
