On the 29 October, I'll be kicking off a conference on ageing, fashion and culture at London College of Fashion together with Ari Seth Cohen from
Advanced Style. As I've mentioned before, Ari's inspirational work is one of the reasons I started blogging in the first place, and so I'm excited to be appearing alongside him.
Mirror, Mirror is a two-day conference with lots of guest speakers - and That's Not My Age readers are entitled to discounted tickets (£40 instead of £100),

Hope some of you can make it, very much looking forward to discussing style and age and meeting you in person.

Sounds marvelous, Alyson! Wish I could be there. xoxo
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteAnd if you could ask Ari to feature, on occasion, a few elders who are less, um, Advanced? For example, the woman in the photo. Isn't the leopard beanie a step too far? It's the verging on caricature thing that makes me uncomfortable...
I am however a lone voice.
Fabulous, and congratulations! I'd have loved to attend. I hope you'll post recaps for us.
ReplyDeleteHi there! What an awesome conference, so pleased for you, it should be a massive success!! Xx
ReplyDeleteFirst of all LPC, you are not a lone voice!!! I've long thought many Advanced Style ladies were a tad over the top. They are embracing their style, yes, but they are in COSTUME, not in fashion. These women strike me as desperate for attention as parading around is their life's work. Now this is a fine line. You may argue that Iris Apfel is in costume as well, but you never get the feeling it is her raison d'etre.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, lovely TNMA, you are not one of those women and are such an astute reporter on the feasts and foibles of fashion in the real world. Very much wish I could be at the conference. Perhaps I would tell Ari my thoughts directly.
There are no times provided on the link to the booking site - is it an all day thing? If it is in the evenings would love to come!
ReplyDeleteNw that's pretty spectacular, love the look! I would'nt mind being in that conference absorbing your energy!

This would be so much fun...really wish I could join you!!
ReplyDeleteLPC/Michelle - I hear you! Some of the Advanced Style ladies are quite theatrical, I prefer a more pared-down look myself but I do quite like the leopard beanie.
ReplyDeleteVeshoevius - oh that's odd,but the good news is that Ari & I are on in the evening from 6.30pm
Nicolene - oops sorry That's Not Me, it's one of the Idiosyncratic Fashionistas.
Brilliant. I might be in Belfast. Still waiting to find out dates. If not I will be there. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteHow I wish I lived in London!
ReplyDeleteThis sound like a great conference! I would be there if I could. You and Ari together will be outstanding, I'm sure. Ari has influenced and inspired many, including myself. He is part of the reason that I started blogging too.
ReplyDeleteOh, Oh. I don't suppose you're offering a discount on the airfare to get there too. This conference just sounds too wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI want to be like that when I grow up!!!
ReplyDeleteI started my blog and were looking for other older Danish women, but found no one at the time. Looked for other countries and found Aris, your blog and Style Crone and more, it motivate me to go on. I would like to be at your conference. I am sure it will be fantastic. I would have liked you could come to Denmark.
