Older models: Boots No.7 Ta Dah! campaign

Have you seen the latest Boots No.7 Ta Dah! campaign? The models are all 'real' women who haven't been photoshopped, airbrushed or under the knife. After five years of blogging-on about ageless style, I'm pleased to see that designers and retailers are finally waking up and smelling the grey pound. We're gradually seeing a more diverse range of women being used in advertising campaigns - Dove have been doing this for some time and last autumn Lanvin embraced Advanced Style -  and this can have a very powerful impact. Research has proven that women respond to models who look like themselves, and I have to admit to having a bit of a grown-up lady crush on gorgeous grey-haired Ali (nearly 48-years-old). Watch the video where she's shown in close-up, wrinkles and all, and with the aid of some professionally applied make-up and Bob Dylan-style cue cards she goes from 'self-conscious' to 'in charge' in a jiffy. Gulp.

Beauty at any age. Taken seriously. Hoorah!

  1. Fantastic! Well done to Boots. Actually I the No 7 range and find it equal to far more expensive cosmetics. Minerva ~

  2. Looks amazing, the first thing I thought when I saw this ad was 'wow, I wish I could wear red lips so well'

  3. Ah, that's nice. She's comes over so well - pretty before and still herself but a bit more glossy

  7. She's lovely with and without makeup, and it's wonderful to see some actual lines of living!

  8. Interesting how her grey streak seems to show up more when she's made-up - in a good way!

No 7 Stay Perfect make-up is the best match for my skin I've ever found, better than the premium brands and so much cheaper.

Sadly the nail polish comes off on paper so when you're working it looks like you've scribbled on your paperwork. It also marked my MacBook but fortunately came off with a damp cloth.

I took it back and the assistant said she's stopped using it because she had the same problem. I swopped it for Max Factor and am yet to find out whether that's better.

  9. Well, she's lovely to start with. I think half as much make-up would be fine - she just needed a little color. And speaking of color, I love her orange shoes in the early shots!

  10. She is lovely and look glamorous with the dark lips, but I actually think she looks younger in the before pictures.

  13. What is so great about this is I actually thought I Get Her...I identify with her. I love her words IN CHARGE. This is good marketing!

  14. 40+ is still young. 70+ would be fun to see.

  15. Brava, Boots! I adore her and the way they celebrate her age without making her look younger or older- just dolled up and incredible. Thanks for posting!

  16. What a great clip, she's gorgeous and doesn't look her age in the first place. I love the makeup they've put on her, very natural, just accentuating her beauty and popping red lips - just as I like it. Fab post! xo

  18. She looks great. I think her hair is key, actually. And as someone with truly awful hair, that makes me feel rather despondent ...

  19. Wonderful ... no condescension here.
    Now some 60+ women, please.

  20. I agree with Tiffany - she has amazing hair. To be honest, though I loved the red lips, I think she would have looked better with a less vivid colour. I also found it amusing that a 47 year old woman is considered to be "older" - my daughter is almost 43 and (as her mother) I think she is young and I still don't think of myself as "older", though I obviously am!

  21. She is lovely and looks fabulous made up and equally beautiful without a scrap on. She is definitely a great normal model for this campaign.

  22. I agree with Sue - it tough dealing with the idea that someone in their forties is old or older! That must make me, in my sixties ancient.

  23. Ingefaer, I don't know about you but I'm 65 (66 in less than 3 weeks) and I honestly don't think of myself as old. Let's hear it for the over 60s!

PS May I mention that I have a blog? http://over60andoverhere.blogspot.co.uk/

  26. I absolutely love this - what a beauty. I thought I'd pop over to say hi, after kind of spending a weekend with you at the Big Feastival - I was so occupied with the boys, we didn't chat much. Lovely to meet you. As a mum in my earlier 40's this was a joy to watch. xxx
