Angelina's Leg needs to watch out - my left limb was unleashed at the weekend and it'll probably have it's own Twitter account before long. On the hottest day of the year so far, I headed across town with Mr That's Not My Age to see The Stones in the Park (part deux). It'll be hot warned the Blog Widower before we left. And crowded. But that's OK I thought, my lovely silk maxi dress from Tucker is perfect in a heatwave.
Walking through Hyde Park to see The Stones on a sultry summer evening felt so magical.
When the band played Glastonbury a couple of weeks ago, casual ageism was more prevalent on Twitter than pointless #selfies, not to mention the offensive 'night of the living dead headline' in the Daily Mail. Hadley Freeman addressed this in the Guardian, and so there's only one thing to add: I think the Stones are still brilliant. And yes, I know it's not 1973 and this is more of a greatest hits/sing-along with The Stones set - but they're still brilliant. They work hard and they're good at what they do and if I can move like Jagger at 70, I'll be ecstatic. He has the body and the stamina of his 25-year-old self (thanks apparently to a strict daily regime of ballet and running) and that's pretty bloody impressive, if you ask me.
And while we're on the subject of Jagger, I'm feeling quite envious of his fabulous wardrobe of glitzy jackets and silky shirts. Pure Casual Glamour. There was even a wonderful fashion moment when Sir Mick appeared on stage in a replica of the white frock from the 1969 gig:

Here's a better picture of the Tucker dress. Sorry about the empty bottle in the picture, I didn't see it at the time, the sun was in my eyes, and I have no idea how to use Photoshop so it's staying put. And things were looking a lot messier by the end of the gig, I can tell you.
Looks like they made a big an impression on you as they did me. I couldn't take my eyes off Mick, he's an inspiration to us all.

ReplyDeleteI am in love with this dress!! The whole style is perfect for many occasions...but to wear it to see the Stones...love it! I agree Jagger should inspire and encourage all of us to be healthy and keep doing what we love no matter what the age number says. I have a feeling if I went to a concert I would be tempted to dance on top of chairs, boxes, anything...like I use to do at concerts years ago. I just can't sit still for Honky Tonk Women!
ReplyDeleteSorry, made my comment via facebook and don't know why it has appeared 3 times! Anyway... you do look fabulous! ( x 3 !! ) X
