The New New York List

This blog post comes to you live from New York City. I have a rule whenever I stay with Manhattan Brother - and that's to visit somewhere new in New York. Somewhere I've never been before. To add to my New New York List. Sounds easy, I know, but he's been here for 13 years and I'm quite content drinking coffee and walking up and down the High Line. That Is My Age. So, this time round we've taken in some Hell's Kitchen Flea Market action. Forget Fifth Avenue, I'm much happier rummaging through other people's junk.

There was a fair amount of flea market chic going down:

Ssh... don't tell anyone I took this picture:

I've visited New York many times but am still struck by the scale scale of the buildings...

Add hanging out at a speakeasy to the New New York list. Yep. We stayed up late on Friday night. With some young people. In a secret bar behind a coffee shop. I know. Next on the list, a walk around Harlem. Check out the graffiti:

I did a very small jig in its honour. Nothing too strenuous, didn't want passers-by to think I was having a seizure. Then today, we cycled halfway round Manhattan. Yes, really. Mr That's Not My Age and I took the bike route right down the Hudson River, through Battery Park, up the east side and across to Central Park, then around the park - right up to the northern end (new to me) - and back down to MB's apartment. Phew. I liked it so much I bought the t-shirt.

Mr That's Not My Age on wheels.

Tomorrow we're off to the New York Yankees opening home game. Apparently that's a good thing. Hope you're having a very happy Easter.

  2. Cool pictures! I do miss New York, especially the NY of today rather than the early 80's when I lived there. Have fun at the Yankees game, and don't forget your sunscreen.

  8. Well, that's me officially homesick now. I love the flea markets in NY. That mirror in the first flea market photo is delightfully OTT. Makes me wish I had a room that I could put it in and then call it a "parlour", or perhaps a "drawing room". Well done with the biking.

  17. Loved seeing these pics of NY. We are off there at the beg. of May for a week - may need to pick your brain. Looks like the weather is nice too. Flea markets are the best and so good when you can find a bargain or two to bring home to UK. S x

  19. You make me want to hop on the subway, wind up at the airport, and just get on a plane! (It would have to be Paris or NYC. I'd take either one right now!)
