Bill Cunningham making Vanity Fair's international best dressed list this week reminded me that I still haven't compiled this year's Style Begins at Forty Awards (SBAFtAS). To be honest, I'm finding it hard to concentrate on anything other than the Olympics at the moment, but the blog must go on! Past winners have included, Iris Apfel, Hilary Alexander and Michelle Obama. With Jarvis Cocker, Keith Richards and José Mourinho doing their bit for men of a certain age. I have a preliminary list on the go, but would like to open this year's awards out to my dedicated readers, so do please let me know if there's anyone who you think has excelled in the style stakes over the last 12 months.
Thanks and have a good weekend.

Loving the Olympics from here too!! Waking up at strange hours to watch races. Will have a think about style recipients for the SBAFtAS awards ... you always draw up a great list. Have a wonderful weekend. x
ReplyDeleteI'll be waiting with 'bated breath for the SBAFtAS list. I'm always hungry for an infusion of style that I can relate to. God bless the internet, the only seeming source of fashion inspiration these days.
ReplyDeleteI know an extraordinary 55 +/- yr old woman who is the most stylish, artistic woman I know. She's totally not famous, but if you want someone not in the limelight, she's perfect. Let me know if you want someone like that. She's funky and fearless, it's in her blood, and she should be shouted out someday.
You can find her in Philly and she's a true, fabulous original. Let me know.
A bit cliched in the fashion sense but I think one of my picks would be SJP. I love that she says in interviews she wont be going down the scary intervention route to combat ageing, a difficult thing to pull off where she lives and works, and the fact that she still has courage to continue to try new things. Tilda Swinton, for her all round fearlessness and fabulousness. But I am aware both of those women are very slim, I wish I could think of someone with a bit more padding that I admire but I can't, can anyone else?
ReplyDeleteJean - your friend sounds fabulous. Think we need to get her on the blog!
ReplyDeleteLilac in May - good call. Love Tilda. And hooray for fearless women who try new things. I'll have a think about someone with a bit more padding.
Impressed how Bill is not wearing his (in)famous blue street-worker, tape-fixed jacket. BTW he stated in his documentary - he doesn't care and take photos of popular "celebs" (actors, singers etc) because they do not represent true style.
ReplyDeleteValuable information and excellent post you got here! I would like to thank you for sharing your thoughts and time into the stuff you post!!Thumbs up! Big thanks for the useful info.,
