London 2012: Olympic Park Style

Retro-inspired sportswear never goes out of fashion.

The Olympics. I'm loving it. London is euphoric, the atmosphere is fan-bloody-tastic and for once it does actually feel like we're all in this together. The athletes, the crowds, the volunteers, the soldiers. So far, the Games have been a veritable triathlon of emotions: tears practically every time Team GB win a medal, pride and joy at the fabulous opening ceremony, anger at that British rower who apologised for only getting a silver. People, I don't want it to end. If only I could bottle this feeling and sell it. I'd have more money than Mitt Romney.

So. On Thursday, me and Mr That's Not My Age actually took in some live Games action. We were lucky enough to get some last-minute cheap tickets for the the hockey. Australia won, by the way...

Roaming around afterwards, I managed to snap a few sneaky Olympic Park Style pics. Some of the spectators maxed out on national pride:

Team USA.
Team Netherlands

Even I was wearing my Team GB t-shirt (photo coming soon). But it was the dapper older folks and their nifty selection of sun hats that caught my eye:

Floppy and floral.
The flat cap and pint combo.

Can't wait to watch more athletics this evening. Are you enjoying London 2012?

  1. You really are into the Olympic Games!
Me - not much. There simply is so much publicity over sports - all the time.
And we had the European Championship Games just a month, two ago.
Perhaps, were the Olympic Games over here ( not even possible ), I might think differently.
    You - enjoy!

  3. I love the Olympics for the most part. Love that anything can happen. Love to cheer on years and years of efforts from the athletes. Love the world stage. Love getting a peek at the host country. How lucky that you can attend.

I liked the couple in the orange and white - Netherlands? And got a laugh at the two Americans in the red, white and blue jumpsuits.

I like the flat cap and battered corduroy trousers - he could start a trend.

  5. All I've seen is what you've posted dear girl. Like the flat cap, corduroy, DMs, pint and brolly on the arm look (except for jacket).

  11. Would love to be there - had plane tickets and house rented - but couldn't get tickets to the events we wanted to see. Were in Beijing, Athens, Sydney, Atlanta, Barcelona (skipped Seoul) and Los Angeles.

This year they changed the ticket vendor/system. We tried for 18 months - but not even brokers could guarentee tickets for 1 1/2 times face value. All told us we could probably get them in London -but couldn't take a chance with 94 year old mother and 80 year old brother-in-law.

    There's always Rio!

  12. Australia won - well that makes a change!! I'd have love to have seen today's cycling - watched it on the internet and the atmosphere looked amazing.
Very up for your red frilly skirt - we should arrange to have a drink in South London too!

  13. I like to watch the Olympics. I do not like crowds so like watching from afar. Thank you for giving me an up close and personal look with your post. I have no interest in who wins the gold I just like the personal stories from the athletes about what it takes to be the best at what one loves to do.

  15. Ming - the ticketing system has been a complete fiasco. We tried numerous times & then just got lucky a couple of weeks ago. I would've loved to have seen more events. What a shame you couldn't come but I think you made the right decision, they've been releasing tickets every day but it's still virtually impossible to get hold of any.
