It's warmer than Barcelona in London at present and to avoid looking like I'm suffering a menopausal meltdown, I've been thinking of ways to stay cool. Ever since I read about Acne's Snowdon Blue campaign earlier this month, I've been determined to find the perfect blue shirt. So determined, I'm able to conveniently overlook the fact that this is the fail-safe fashion item of Prime Ministers - David Cameron and Tony Blair are both fans - and focus on its more stylish supporters. As the royal photographer points out, 'The blue shirt is anonymous and yet a kind of uniform. It's a simple backdrop that leaves us to focus on the sitter's face without distraction.'

At £180 a pop, the Acne shirt is right off my pay scale. So, I've found a couple of reasonably priced alternatives. The collarless version from Toast (above), in a stunning shade of cornflower, and this little number from Gap:
The perfect blue shirt works with white pants, jeans, chinos and maxi skirts. And when I've got my hands on one, I'll show you how.
Have a lovely weekend.
Also, secondhand men's cotton shirts are great as an overshirt for summer. I'm wearing one today!
ReplyDeleteBlue does not work for me, neither do shirts (;
ReplyDeleteThere is only one certain wash in blue in jeans, I feel comfortable in, not the dark, sort of mid-dark blue.
So what´s this all about Acne now showing up everywhere? I know - it´s all about marketing. I don´t like the quality of their items, nor the models special in any way.
My quest was to find a fitted denim blue shirt without boob pockets. (Oversized shirts just swamp me) I finally did find one from Lafayette148, and while it's pricey (now on sale though) it's one of the best fitting shirts I've ever owned.
ReplyDeleteLove that picture of Emma T!
Cornflower blue makes a great shirt colour.
ReplyDeleteBut when is a shirt a blouse? I'd always assumed that a shirt worn by a woman is a blouse, but what do I know?
Brooks Brothers also has great women's shirts that are so very classic and no iron!

Nice samples! I love a good chambray shirt, especially a worn out one with holes in it.
ReplyDeleteOh the Gap one is rather nice!

Having worked in the construction industry most of my adult life I have amassed a small collection of "free" blue shirts in various weights of cotton and blended fabrics from cornflower to midnight blue - all of them bearing company names or logos. Great for company events or around the house/yard stuff, not so great for out and about stuff! Except maybe camping (not glamping) or a casual beach coverup, for me. Fridays at work I sometimes wear one as a "jacket" over a pink tee shirt or ivory turtleneck, jeans or cargoes. I'm sure you can come up with a more stylish way to wear the blue shirt!
ReplyDeleteBlue is one of my favorite colors, so waiting to see what you come up with. I don't own a blue shirt at this time.
ReplyDeleteI own 5 of the blue Gap shirts and 5 of them in white.
ReplyDeleteI wear one of them everyday now. I've never owned a more comfortable shirt. Much cooler than tee shirts when it's hot also.
I just realized, I'm wearing a blue one in my photo.
ReplyDeleteLove denim shirts!!!

I like the shirt with the scarf halter underneath. I have a denim shirt, but it is more fitted than most you've pictured. I may need to look for a larger one.

ReplyDeleteMette - I agree. I've bought a couple of things from Acne and the quality's not great. My jeans shrank, a lot.
ReplyDeleteKathy - I do think Gap are good for basics, and next time I do a feature on shirts, you'll have to be in it!
