Hooray for Hilary
At the CFDA Fashion Awards on Monday 6 June, Hilary Alexander will be presented with the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard - and That's Not My Age can't wait to see what she's wearing. The Telegraph's fabulous fashion director has a singular style, mixing high street and High Atlas like no other. This photo was taken at London Fashion Week a couple of seasons ago, where I asked Hilary for her style secrets, ' Wear amazing jewellery and enjoy clothes, but not in a mutton dressed as lamb way,' And then, apparently quoting Barry Humphries, she added, 'Cover up the bits that aren't flattering, fashion is just a matter of hiding the body and the older you get the more true that is.' Excellent advice.
At the Telegraph since 1985 (which is two years before the Sheppard award came into existence) Hilary is due to retire this month. But she's not hanging up her Mukkluks just yet, with plans afoot to freelance and study archaelogy at university - this woman has so much energy, I want to be like her when I collect my bus pass (if not before!)
Previous winners of the CFDA Media Award include Cathy Horyn, André Leon Talley and Suzy Menkes. Here are two Queens of Fashion Journalism at a farewell lunch in Paris earlier this year:
