Whilst there was a ton of brightly coloured, real fur on the autumn/winter 2011 catwalks, That's Not My Age has also spotted a flash of faux (see the Prada show above.) I'm not quite sure when fake fur became faux - probably around the time Anna Wintour got slapped in the face with a tofu pie - but let's go with contemporary fashion terminology. Now, I'm not some radical animal rights activist who'd throw paint at your chinchilla and I'm not looking for an online fur debate - wear what you like as far as I'm concerned, just don't expect to be invited round to TNMA Mansions if you're draped in dead animal pelts. On the other hand, if you're flaunting Chanel-style faux, my door is always open...

With advances in fabric technology there are plenty of modern alternatives to real fur, but give me a fistful of vintage, man-made fibres, any day:

Now, have I ever told you that when the Blog Widower/official That's Not My Age photographer takes my picture for these posts, he has to do it sitting in the bath? The only room in the place with white walls and pale flooring is the bathroom and to get a full-length shot, Mr TNMA has to climb inside the tub. Could be worse I suppose, he could be sitting on the toilet. Whilst I love The Beast (my 1960s leopard spot number, above), everywhere I turn these days there's someone in a cheap animal print coat, and much as The Queen feels about her prospective in-laws, I'm finding the idea a bit common. Fortunately, I can give The Beast a rest. A couple of weekends ago, I came across The Bear. My new favourite coat is a lovely fluffy 1950s Borg fabric, 'fashioned by real furriers' and found in a junk shop in Brixton Market.

The Bear looks good with jeans and skinny pants and coincidentally is the same shade of brown as a pair of old Clark's Desert Boots I found lurking under the bed. Going forward, I think it'll look neat with a floral print frock and leather boots - imagine this model with The Bear slung insouciantly over her shoulders:

Bears, beasts and bathrooms, That's Not My Age likes to keep it real or should that be faux? Oh now I'm confused.

Is he really in the bath? That's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteMine gets all huffy taking the pics - he's so hopeless he can't even work out which button to press and it always ends up in " Forget it, leave it!" and me flouncing in a huff.
I love astrakan, it's so warm, I've got one and it goes on on those freezing cold snowy days.
thought this was a post about me!
ReplyDeleteLaughed out loud re the photo in the bath! Love the leopard jacket x
Good Morning, I am contacting you from a PR firm and wanted to communicate with you. please email SCPRinterns@gmail.com. Thank you
ReplyDeletePoor Mr TNMA being made to lie in a bathtub taking photos. I'm going to tell Jon, he's always whingeing about being made to go outside and freeze.
ReplyDeleteI love that Borg coat as much as I love the Beast. My Astraka beast's snugly installed in the back of coat cupboard waiting for the teens to bin their Primarni rip-offs. xxx
Looks nice and cosy! Think you'll be wearing it for some time to come if today's weather is anything to go by *shivers*
ReplyDeleteAli x
Hi there!! Thats a wonderful find and looks really gorgeous on-it goes fabulous with your skinnys but will look great with a floral dress and biker style boots!! Its obviously a real classic vintage and still looks oh so stylish, well done indeed! xx
ReplyDeleteTabitha - yes, Mr TNMA is really in the (empty) bath, but I think he's getting a bit tired of the whole rigmarole, last week he refused to take his boot off!
ReplyDeleteSorry Faux Faux Faux Fuchsia, it's all about me.
MyStyle - thanks, I'm really pleased with my find.
haha, the things we make our guys do for our blogs! (my husband grew so tired of taking photos, so it do my own now- i finally have the perfect minimal space to shoot the pics.)
ReplyDeleteanyway...
i love your coats! the astrakan is the ultimate neutral hue.
Love your new coat and it will look great with florals and boots and Jeans of course. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteLoving the Bear although not quite as much as the Leopard!
ReplyDeleteForget flowers and chocs - sitting in the bath to take your blog pics? That's what I call true love! xx
ReplyDeleteI must admit my heart was in my throat when I saw your post was about fur. Then I read on and relaxed a little. Fur belongs on its original wearer. Period. (Full stop? lol)
ReplyDeleteYour DH sounds adorable and of course devoted, as all husbands of bloggers should be! I LOVE the "bear." Just adorable!
LOVE your Bear. My Mother had a black Askrakan coat - wish she'd kept it and then I could have had it!! And your shoes are fabulous. Mr TNMA is very obliging doing 'bath photos'!! XX
ReplyDeleteLoving the Bear and am sure you will channel 'insouciance' really well.
ReplyDeleteWeShop,Rosina and Semi - I've told Mr TNMA how much you appreciate his bath work!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny he has to get in the bath. I made The Actor photograph some of my shoes recently and the only way he could do it was with me standing on the kitchen worktop.
ReplyDeleteThe beast is still the best faux fur I've seen xx
Hi,
ReplyDeletePlease can you tell me what shoes you are wearing in the photo of you modelling The Bear ?
The Bear's very nice but the shoes are great.
Thanks.
