Still mulling over the midi skirt? Me too. But this lovely image from Hobbs might just send my hemlines southwards. And that's because, this gorgeous shade of blue perks up any outfit whilst the matching tailored jacket upgrades the look and flatters a grown-up complexion. Mid-length, mid-life, too-much-like-Miss-Marple crisis averted. Fabulous not frumpy, that's what we want.
That looks stunning, especially for Hobbs. I've always thought of it as the place to shop when you've decided you never want to have sex again.
ReplyDeleteI also love the colour. I think it works because of the waisted jacket and fuller skirt, which falls just below the knee. The unflattering frumpy length is about mid calf which shortens the leg and only looks good in my opinion on long legged "gazelle" models.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to find a skirt that length with that kind of movement and drape. So far all of the just-below-the-knee length skirts I've seen this season are stiff and bulky.
ReplyDeleteThe scalloped hem is lovely.
ReplyDeleteMmmm yes is lovely, but with heels too. Would maybe work with a wedge but with flats?
ReplyDeleteHa Ha, love Tabithas quote. That outfit looks young, it's not the 'stout' type I associate with Hobbs...
ReplyDeleteI caved and bought a midi-length (below knee but not mid-calf, which I can't do) black tulle skirt I've been eyeing for a while. I thought I'd shorter it to knee length, but after parading around in it (in heels, of course), I've decided I love the ladylike look. Now to find a time in my humdrum existence to wear it, of course ...
ReplyDeleteTabitha - that's so funny, and was true until a couple of years ago. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised if you popped into Hobbs - not a printed linen sack dress in sight!
ReplyDeleteChic - yes, you're so right, that mid-calf length is impossible to pull-off.
DP - stiff and bulky doesn't work. I give you Samantha Cameron in a leather dirndl at London Fashion Week.
FFA - one of my colleagues always wears a midi (regardless of fashion trends) and often wears brogues. I think you can wear a below-the-knee skirt and flats Mitford sister-style, as long as the rest of your outfit is sharp not sloppy.
I am presently making my way through the complete boxed set of Miss Marple DVDs and loving the look.Spotted grey silk blouses comfy cardigans and soft brown felt hats. Bring it on.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good look - will it translate from styled image to reality!
ReplyDeleteBought a silk shirt in this colour today...a great colour!

LOL @ Tabitha's comment!
ReplyDeleteTabiths's comment - too funny!! It looks as if Hobbs have come on leaps and bounds since I was last in UK! Love the movement in the skirt and love the colour. Jacket is gorgeous too. x
ReplyDeleteOh dear, and I've always rather liked Hobbs! I have several of their gorgeous little dresses that are marvelously classic.. I am only 5'3 and short is my perceived wisdom unless worn with high heels, but I love this as a look: Dior 1947 influences I think.
ReplyDeleteTabithas comment is funny. Yhis is a lovely look though - question is would it look as good on me as the model.....probably not. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteLove Tabatha's comment!
ReplyDeleteI'd say that's a tad short for midi length which usually finishes at the unflattering mid-calf angle. It's beautiful but all down to the shoe, anything less than skyscraper could look very spinster of this parish. xxx
I cannot do it. The length won't work!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have Hobbs here but I know it. I think it's spensive for what it is x
