Better Than Ever

Pat Cleveland, Bethann Hardison and friend.

In another good week for Ageless Style, Barneys unveiled a Better Than Ever advertising campaign (great name, might have to borrow that) featuring mature models Pat Cleveland, 64, activist and founder of the Diversity Coalition Bethann Hardison and Christie Brinkley who was 61 this week. Shot by Bruce Weber in Miami, it's a bit Pedro Almodovar meets Benny Hill, but I like it.

I also found this fantastic video of Frances McDormand on ageing via Jo Goddard.

Ex-Sonic Youth star Kim Gordon proves that wearing beige doesn't kill you. And I can't wait to read her book Girl in a Band. There's an excerpt in today's Guardian HERE

Enjoy the weekend.

  1. I haven't commented much, but I read you regularly. I love what Francis McDormand says here. And I wanted to say I've prepurchased a copy of your book. Can't wait! I will feel like I'm involved in this secret blogging society. A behindthescenes, intheknow kind of feeling! Thanks. ;-) xo Jazzy Jack

  2. Hello and thank you, Jazzy Jack! I love hearing from all my readers both behind the scenes and upfront. Really admire Frances McDormand's stance on ageing too. We need more inspirational women like her.

  3. good morning and thank you for your blog and today thank you most especially for the interview clip with Frances Mc Dormand. Wow! I too feel that nostalgia she describes. I ask my friends, 'when do I get to let it all go? get to look like Aunt Bea? with my wide waist, apron and happy grin?'I will be 60 in March and while happy to celebrate my good fortune and good genes to be here now, I struggle with the feelings of being 'old' that this birthday brings. my sister gave up the dye bottle last year. I think that will be something I gift myself this birthday. And celebrate being an adult, a wise old woman in fact! keep up the great work, Deborah

  4. Thank you so much for this post and the video of Frances McDormand!! In regards to what Frances said about younger women needing her image and needing her voice-- yes, absolutely! Younger women need all our (older women) images and voices. We need to stand up for aging. Thanks again. Best, jayme.

  8. I am still not sure about beige - bit tired and pasty looking?

  9. I dislike beige, but because I associate it with being staid, boring and bourgeois, not with any specific age group.

  10. I hate the Barneys ads, they make the women seem old and silly.
