Quote of the week: India Knight

India Knight

What a fantastic week it's been for Ageless Style. Selfridges launched their Bright Old Things campaign, next came St Joan of CĂ©line and finally the unveiling of Joni Mitchell for Saint Laurent Paris.

Journalist and author of In Your Prime, India Knight has written a marvellous piece about the fashion industry putting age before beauty in the Sunday Times today. I love what she says about the superficial side of the business and frivolous nonsense like the Victoria's Secret Angels:

'As a woman in her prime, I'm impervious to advertising that shows me that I, too, could look like a 20-year-old ninny.'

Oh and for those who asked, here are a couple of images from the Selfridges launch. I must remember to take a proper camera with me, instead of just using my phone for Instagram (and then faffing around when I only have enough space for two photos). Sue Kreitzman told me that Selfridges said her's was one of the best window displays, ever. And there's more information about all the Bright Old Things online HERE.

With all these amazing, inspirational women around who wants to look like a 20-year-old ninny?

  8. I deleted my comment from last night, Alyson. I should never write after dinner (and glass of wine)...those spelling errors just slip right on by. I was going to say that it's been a good week for Joans and Jonis everywhere...and for us over 50 types.

  11. I don't know who India Knight is but I gather she's a humor writer. Why is it okay for her to call the young models ninnies? Wouldn't we be up in arms if a young humor writer called those featured (in this post) old biddies? Maybe I'm suppose to take her comment as a shot against advertising people but I think it's also rude to the young women.

Once again, I don't understand why women can't be supportive, or even just tolerant, of each other. Just because the older women have had more time to be in the public eye, express their creativity, express their intelligence, doesn't mean the younger 'ninnies' don't have those same qualities.

I'm happy to see interesting faces, of any age or ethnicity, in advertising.

  13. Sue's window was brilliant, she is a very inspiring woman! I loved that Joni campaign too. I think it's wonderful that the fashion world is starting to realise that young isn't always the most fascinating. Xx
