Quote of the week: Caroline de Maigret

Have to be honest and say I'm not a huge fan of How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are, I find it all a bit obvious but maybe I'm a bit jaded after the book writing/editing frenzy - or perhaps the French style guide loses something in translation (?) Model, music producer and best-selling author; the multi-talented and oh-so chic Caroline de Maigret talks about image and style in the current issue of Net-a-Porter's The Edit:

'Once you are OK with aging, you find ways of being the best you can be. We've given up on being perfect. Prince Charming doesn't exist either, we all agree on that. But you can't live your life thinking about what you don't have.'

Though I don't make resolutions, at the start of the year, I think it's important to consider and be thankful for what you do have.

  2. Wonderful quote (though she doesn't look a minute over 32!) and message about gratitude. xo

  3. Excellent quote! While I really didn't care for the book, it can't be denied that the women who wrote it have a lot to offer.

  4. I thumbed through the book in my before-Christmas book-shopping, and honestly, there just didn't seem enough there to justify paying a hardcover price. What was there seemed credible enough, interesting even, but just not enough substance. I did get a sense, from what I looked at in the book and from reviews I've read, that the writers lived real lives, and had a healthy approach to style, beauty, fitness, etc. I suppose their ages were somewhat of a barrier to me as well -- but while Caroline Maigret looks rather young, here, to be giving advice on adapting to the aging process, what she says is wise enough. . . (have to say, honestly, that I can't imagine a lifestyle that would make those white, white, white sneakers practical)

  5. From the oh-so-chic GSL: "Aging is far better than the only alternative."

  6. Janice & materfamilias- agree, agree. I found the book a bit flimsy too, but I did like attitude of the authors.

    Oh-so-chic GSL - you're not wrong.

  7. I wasn't that impressed with the substance of the book either, though I did think the authors were coming at it from a tongue-in-cheek, ironic look at the French Women genre. More as entertainment than information.

Do like CdM's quote here though.

  9. The video clips on YouTube to publicise the book (starring the gorgeous CdM) are worth a watch. Agree with all above re book (and white trainers).

  11. I agree..one of the worst books I started to read this year. Could not even finish it it was that bad. I don't really understand what the point of the book was. Maybe I am missing something.

  13. Easy to say not to yearn for what you do't have (I'm assuming she's talking about looks here) when you have amazing bone structure, thick flowing hair and can put on anything and look amazing. It's a bit like telling a starving person that money is not worth trying to earn. So much hubris

  14. This CdM is starting to grow on me with one of her aphorisms "How to Be French and Fuckable" according to Style.com

For GSL, this is regrettably an untapped field of study.

  15. This publication is a prank
Feeding off the subculture of fashion-lifestyle obsessed blogs and guides
    That humiliate most readers
