Selfies, style and spotting Bill Clinton

This is the first (and possibly the last) proper selfie I've ever taken. Though I do wish I'd gone for the Helle Thorning-Schmidt-style snap on Friday evening WHEN I SAW BILL CLINTON  doing his Christmas shopping. I know. That is undoubtedly the most surreal sentence I've ever typed. And I still can't quite believe the former president was on the fourth floor at Liberty admiring the baubles. He looked very dapper too. Anyhow. It's been a good week for grown-up style. Monica Bellucci was named a Bond Girl at 50 - about time the secret agent cavorted with someone his own age.

And 47-year-old Julia Roberts became the face of the Givenchy spring/summer 2015 campaign. She looks good Tomboy Style, don't you think?

Oh and my selfie was taken after I'd had my hair & makeup professionally done for a blogger feature for Good Housekeeping magazine's April issue. I'll keep you posted about that.

Hope you're enjoying the weekend.

  2. Beautiful selfie! I'd love to see a pic of The Big Dog shopping - he's still my favorite president, that one.

  3. In the very deep end of my 60s, more and more I'm finding that tomboy style a frequent choice. Never suited me when I was younger, but seems to work well now. Also, here in Vancouver, Canada, I once saw Bill Clinton just walking down the street, with the rest of us!

  6. Love the wriggly hair on you, adore Monica Bellucci and Bill C is so utterly charming and flirtatious, I sat beside him at charity dinner a few years ago and would have run off into the sunset with him had I not been married.

  7. Cute pic AW! I will concur on this Monica Belluci bit of Bond casting.
Apparently, Badinage doesn't get out much...

  8. ...AW, you sre showing progress with your James Bond but this old pro must also issue wrist slap as 'Pussy Galore'/Honore Blackman was older than Bond in Goldfinger.

  9. Congratulations on the article about you in Good Housekeeping - well deserved. You take a great selfie and have incredible blue eyes.
It's good to see that the mature-aged demographic is being better represented in film and advertising, but there is still a long way to go if our representation is to be proportional. Warm regards

  10. You look gorgeous! Your eyes are so blue, just the color of your top. And you saw Bill Clinton!! He's the only president I've ever seen - once from a distance when he was campaigning before he was elected, and once in his car as president. I will admit, though, that I've seen Mr. Obama in my dreams (more than once).

  11. GSL - I can see I'm going to have to fact check any James Bond reference in future...

    materfamilias - ooh well spotted!

Elizabeth Eiffel - completely agree with you about representation

Val S - if it had been Obama, I wouldn't have been able to stop myself

  12. Looking great! About time that they chose an older Bond girl. Very pleased to read that.

  13. Very nice selfie... Do not let it be your last! I as a blogger of 48, and just learning how to do selfies, I know difficult they can be to master, you are on your way with this one.

  14. AW,
Fact checking is de rigueur over at The Lion's Den but we too occasionally make mistakes. I sense your readers could benefit from some GSL pro bono work. The very first Bond film, 'Dr. No' had 3 of the 4 Bond Girls older than Sean Connery including the very first one Sylvia Trench/Eunice Grayson, Miss Moneypenny, and Miss Taro/Zena Marshall with only Ursula Andress being younger.
I do realize that facts are often pesky intruders into grievance narratives but GSL doesn't mind being seen as unfashionable and always tries to be chivalrous.
