The essential jumpsuit

That's me in a jumpsuit. And no, I am not doing a spot of painting and decorating - though I have to admit that since the holiday I've been on a serious mission to spruce up That's Not My Age Mansions. You know what it's like when you come back and everything looks shit. Well, that has turned me into a De-cluttering Demon. Mr That's Not My Age is scared (mainly for the safety of his vast CD collection). Anyhow. I've embraced the jumpsuit, all-in-one, whatever. Purchased at the start of summer from MHL, this is proper French workwear. The fabric is quite heavy duty so I've been waiting for it to cool down again, otherwise I'm boiling in my boilersuit. Commonly referred to as my Industrial Onesie, it makes getting dressed so easy, I want one in every available colour/fabric. And, all that 'going to the loo is such a palaver' stuff is nonsense. Believe me, I go a lot. You just have to be careful not to drop the arms down the toilet bowl (or onto the urine-splattered floor of a public loo) - and try your best not to wee on them. It's simple.

The best lighter-weight version I've seen is from Whistles, £155, available HERE.

How do you feel about the jumpsuit? Are we all-in-one together?

  1. If you're comfortable and happy wearing it then that's what counts. It's not for me - a bit too workman like and it WOULD end up on the toilet, I'm sure.

  3. You look fab in your jumpsuit and even my apple shape could wear this style but worried I might feel like an overgrown toddler xx

  5. Love them, always have. Just got a new one from James Perse. Waiting for the weather to cool now in LA (been around 100 F) to wear it. The one you posted from Whistles is great!

  6. I have one since 2010, its Jigsaw, silk, navy blue, comfortable and ideal for all seasons as it has sleeves which could be shortened. I like them since I was a little girl.

  7. I had a giggle over your advice about the sleeves as I can vividly remember such a mishap in the loo at work in 1982 when the jump suit was in vogue. xxx

  8. I'm sure you already know how I feel about them. x

  9. Perfect ensemble for decluttering. You manage to look great in any outfit that you choose!

  10. You look so fab in your jumpsuit/onesie! I am going to try one for cooler weather, if it ever comes to Florida.
Any chance you'll be in NYC end of October?

  11. I like it! But I've always liked a jumpsuit, had several of them when my kids were small, and like you, never found the bathroom-going particularly difficult -- but oh, the ease of dressing! Much like a dress, in fact, for ease and pulled-togetherness. I like the look best in this kind of a clean "utilitarian chic" (although I did once have one in fuschia silk jersey, with a revealing deep V of a neckline, during the late 70s, early 80s. Ah, those were the days, my friend)

  12. All depends on the Who and the How, and you've nailed it!!

  13. I absolutely love jumpsuits and have been searching for a (dare I say it?) age-appropriate one. These two are good options. You look great in the French work suit. Love those sandals, too. Are they Dries Van Noten?

  14. Well, you manage to make an "industrial onesie" look very cool! Must be that no-nonsense pose, your slim frame, and the fab sandals. I still think I'll pass. The part that I don't like about going to the loo in a one-piece is that my top part ends up all but naked while I'm "otherwise engaged" and sometimes it's cold!

  15. It looks awesome on you...but would not work for me...I visit the Loo, as Val said, too often during the day. It would get frustrating. Something I just have to put in the past!

  16. I love this on you! And I think you chose great shoes as the companion. I'd love to find a one piece jumpsuit. Normally they don't fit me well. I always look though.

  17. Not sure, it might grow on me though, love the loo advice!De- cluttering,do it a lot, I'm always searching for something that I forgot was gotten rid of!

  18. I love the concept. I used to be embarrassed by my Dad when I was a teen - he would wear the workman's suit in bright orange when we went skiing. Said it kept the hunters from shooting him, and the snow from going down his pants. Anyway, I love the simplicity of the fashion in its redesigned feminine aspect. What I truly miss, but haven't been able to gear myself up to wear again, are overalls!

  19. I like them, my hubby loathes them...and overalls. Haven't found any gorgeous enough to push it yet!
I remember as a girl seeing one that had a shirt tail that tucked into an open waist band at the back so the back separated for the loo but the front was all in one. Very practical for the colder days! Xo JJ

  20. I don't think I am going there again. Too many memories of the late 70s early 80s!

  21. I'm with Val - I would, absolutely, be the one who dropped it into the loo every single time, and I go a LOT every day. And I'd freeze in the process. Have you heard of the men's jumpsuit that resembles a full suit, down to the shirtsleeves poking out? It seems pretty goofy to me, but for some men, it might be a godsend.

  22. No, no, no. It doesn't suit my shape, I don't fancy getting half undressed to take a pee, and I fear it would make most people look like a moving building. I would look even bigger than that. More like a billboard.
