I bloody love Jo Pavey. She's now the oldest woman to win a gold medal at the European Athletics Championships, although at nearly-41, she seems quite young to me. The 10,000m champion made her national debut aged 23 and after an injury-plagued career, years of perseverance and determination finally paid off this week. Pavey has two young children (her daughter Emily is just 11-months-old), bags of stamina and a fabulous attitude; after finishing the 5000m final empty-handed, she just smiled and said, 'It's a pleasure to share the track with the next generation of athletes coming through.'
What a brilliant role model. Can't wait to see her at the Olympics in Rio.
It was a great moment when she got gold earlier this week in the 10,000 metres, I was really hoping she would do well today x
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe of her drive, physical stamina and graciousness. A remarkable woman.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, positive role model. One of my friends, age 60, still places at the top of her field in short distance runs. Love to see it!
ReplyDeleteI admire anyone who can do this...I can only imagine the diligence and determination it takes. Very inspirational.
ReplyDeleteAgree, she is a true role model!
ReplyDeleteI was really happy for her, as she'd worked so hard for it. Hopefully she will inspire other women to take up sport, no matter what their age. I first started running at the age of 38 and still remember someone telling me I was a "vet". My reply "No I'm not. I work in IT!" I was mortified to be told they meant I was a veteran runner as I was over 35! It didn't put me off, luckily.
