With the ever-gorgeous Christy Turlington looking flawless on the cover of British Vogue, the current ageless style issue has been getting lots of press coverage. One of my gorgeous friend's emailed me a link to Vogue's 'style at any age' video: inside a fashion editor's wardrobe with features editor Sarah Harris - she of the stunning grey hair - and regular contributor Bay Garnett. Although I veer towards, Harris' pared-down style, and can relate to her, 'Blue is about as colourful as I get,' comment, my friend was surprised to hear that I found Garnett's honest, chaotic approach much more appealing.
Cool or chaotic? What do you think?
This was my introduction to Bay Garnett. It has made me a huge fan of hers. Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed the video...still stunned that someone would own 90 pairs of jeans...wow...they are each so unique and fun!
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteBTW did you catch the Kinfolk magazine a couple of issues back? It encourages people to rethink ageing and I think it was so wonderfully done. Here is a link in case you fancy a look: http://www.worshipblues.com/search?q=kinfolk#.U5CdBNzaFKM

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this video, I loved it! I agree with you, Bay Garnett's approach is fun and she is a hoot, I loved the bit about the thrifted banana top that ended up inspiring the Chloe designer..
ReplyDeleteWatched this earlier today too! What a fun video and though I think Sarah Harris is stunning, I agree Bay seems like such a fun person and I loved her finds!
ReplyDeleteHow much I loved Bay Garnett.

Love this piece.Love these ladies x
ReplyDeleteWow - loved this video...thanks for sharing. I adore how Bay didn't even tidy her wardrobe - it looks just like mine so I immediately bonded with her! I'd love the minimalism and classic style of Sarah but I'd never keep it tidy enough. Live is much more fun when things get messy.
ReplyDeleteAwesome content! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove the contrast of these two wardrobes - have to say I'd be in the Sarah Harris camp. Who by the way I'm now slightly obsessed with after seeing that. But I'd want Bay Garnett to take me out for drinks - she looks so much fun!
ReplyDeleteYOUR BLOG ROCKS!

Loved Bay Garnett too!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Bay Garnett type of girl. Love that she won't jump in the age-appropriate box! Don't love Sarah Harris's look. To me, it's very much like many others are wearing (at hugely inflated prices). Ninety pair of jeans?!!! Come on.
ReplyDeleteDo admire her organisation though.

Age appropriate is irrelevant as long as one wears what flatters. I was thinking of cutting my greying long hair but after seeing Sarah Harris...I may reconsider. I love the way she looks. Young, but silver. Interesting.
ReplyDeletehi alison, thanks for sharing this wonderful little video. i love looking into other peoples closets.
ReplyDeletei def loved sarah's closet. i love the idea of jeans, tshirts and a high end shoe. i just wish i had some high end shoes!
also, loved the comment about the coats that can lead to a divorce. sad/funny and prob true.
What fun! It's definitely Bay Garnett I would want to hang out with and whose wardrobe appeals to me more. Did that other one say NINETY pairs of jeans? I'm flabbergasted.
ReplyDeleteJust think— if gorgeous Sarah could loosen up a bit to wear some of Bay's fun, fabulous things, what a stunner she would be. And if Bay were to get a teeny bit more organized she might enjoy hers all the more as she will know where they are!
ReplyDeleteFun post, food for thought and proof that we are all so very different— a good thing!
What strikes me is how much our clothing and storage reflect our personalities. And how much fun both of them were having being true to themselves. Despite their constrasting styles, they both seemed to be content in their choices.
ReplyDeleteA good lesson to learn : let your gut instinct lead, even if it's not what others would do. Look within, not without to find your innate style :-)
Thanks for this great post!
Ohhh such a great post. I loved that video. My style is more Sarah Harris...but I fell in love with Bay Garnett's choices. Wish I could be as she is brave with my style choices...I buy vintage and then never wear it! Bay seems like the kind of BFF-girl that you could sit down with over a cup of tea or glass of wine and laugh for hours. Loved her!
ReplyDeleteGreat video and, like nearly everybody else, I would love to meet Bay Garnett! Being naive, and having the volume turned down a bit, I thought she said nineteen pairs of jeans, not ninety! Even then, I thought NINETEEN! I only have four pairs, one of which should be thrown out but is ideal for house-cleaning. Admittedly I only wear jeans between October and April as I live in Spain, but even though I love jeans I can't imagine having 90 pairs!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog and was surprised you featured that cover of Christy Turlington. She is 45, and that photo is not ageless, it is completely fake.
I had a distressing conversation with a teenager recently, where she commented that she hated everything about the way she looks. This was in spite of having flawless olive skin, a beautiful figure and the most glorious hair you have ever seen. And she is a natural beauty.
This girl is the victim of images that are photoshopped and airbrushed, and of a media that values still the barbie doll version of beauty over brains, kindness, integrity, tenacity and every other good quality.
I'm happy to celebrate stylish women, but not fake ones. We seem to be in the most female-hating era of all time, and I fear some of daughters won't survive it.
I really enjoyed this video, I've long been a fan of Bay's but only ever read interviews with her, where you can't always get the full depth of somebody's personality. It was lovely to see her in full flow, such a character, a definite advanced stylista in waiting! I also loved Sarah's classic style and gorgeous hair! Two different ladies with two very different styles which just goes to show you should always be yourself and not conform to what you, or society, considers is age appropriate or fashionable?
ReplyDeleteLike most commenters, I fell in love with Bay Garnett and her wardrobe. She really uses clothes to express her personality whereas Sarah seemed to use clothes as a barrier. Even her wardrobe seemed prison-like.
