And they were all yellow... It's worrying, I know but something has happened. I've found myself humming Coldplay tunes. I currently have only one yellow item in my wardrobe (a cotton knitted APC top with two pockets and gold buttons that looks quite vintage-y), plus some pale fifties primrose coloured tiles in the kitchen. But I'd quite like some more. Maybe it's the sunny weather? Or fashion osmosis? Or the World Cup in Brazil? Who knows. But yesterday I Pinned this bathroom photo on my Pinterest Home Stuff board:

Proof that a smattering of bright yellow with your neutrals can look chic. The tone has to be right though - warm and sunny, egg yolky not too blueish and not too pale. Though obviously it depends on your complexion. And it's good enough for Ines...
Boden 7/8 lemon chino, £49, available HERE.
This Weekend Maxmara Celia blouse, £105, available HERE is probably a bit pale for moi but I could go this Martin Margiela fine knit cashmere sweater, £665, available HERE.
And I keep seeing women in these shiny Saltwater sandals, £49.99, available HERE.
Go easy though, no one wants to end up looking like Big Bird.
I have tried to wear yellow and it is just not one of my favorites. I love the saffron yellow in the fall with military green or navy. Maybe in a shoe!
ReplyDeleteI find yellow quite a difficult colour to wear with my skin tone. It has to be exactly right or I look positively poorly!
ReplyDeleteI love yellow, but particularly in clothing away from my face. Just ordered a yellow leather pencil skirt from my niece's clothing company that I'll wear with a worn out blue work shirt. It's a very happy color and I do love it in interiors too.
ReplyDeleteYellow doesn't work for me, although I'm forcing myself to wear my hard-earned Vancouver marathon t-shirt (only for running, though!). The colour name for it is Blazing Yellow -- ouch! I'm thinking those sandals would be a much better way to get the difficult colour into my OOTD. . .
ReplyDeleteI can't even really be in the same room as yellow;).
ReplyDeleteI quite like it in theory, and on old Swedish houses, but it's my quickest clothing path to ugly, so to be avoided...
I love yellow but only have one dress and that is due to go on ebay soon but only because the style isn't flattering not because of the colour! I like the top but I knew I would, I always pick the expensive things from any blog post I read - gah!
ReplyDeleteI love yellow, but I can't wear it close to my face. I used to have a pair of yellow pumps that I loved to wear -- they were so fun. I just might try either a yellow skirt or pants. The trick is to find just the right shade.
ReplyDeleteI love yellow especially since I ditched the blonde hair. I'd happily wear it from head to toe.
ReplyDeleteLove the bathroom! x
Def something in the air! I've always avoided it but it looks great as a pop of contrast with lots of colours and greys. Wear away from your face if it doesn't suit your complexion ie belt or shoes. I just got a bunch of yellow swatches to decided for my kitchen repaint. Love the bathroom.
ReplyDeletei love yellow...on other people! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of yellow, yet have few pieces in my closet. Lovely photos! Loving the sandals.
ReplyDeleteOn my walls, yes! On my body, nope. Makes me look ill. But my walls look sunny and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteLove yellow, but has to be a very warm yellow on me. I tend to stick to scarves and shoes (one of my favourite pairs ever are mustard yellow suede heels - great for cheering up a grey winter wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteI have a deep yellow top and jacket I used to wear when my hair was salt and pepper. Not sure I'll keep them now that I added some color and have lightened my hair. Love th pants on Ines.
ReplyDeleteLove that bright yellow Martin Margiela with the fresh white skirt...plus that soft yellow shirt from Boden with the striped pencil skirt. I bought a yellow v-neck cotton sweater from the Brooks Brothers outlet in Naples Florida this winter. Couldn't resist the sunny colour! But I think that yellow must be worn with care. To me the Max Mara combo looks dowdy.
ReplyDeletevery cute this outfits!

Every wall in my home is painted pale yellow, my absolute favorite.
ReplyDeleteOh, those boden chino's...... I bought a yellow bag last year, my nod to the trend but those chino's...... Xx
ReplyDeleteI almost bought a pair of bright yellow jeans about 2 years ago & then chickened out (no pun intended!) Maybe I should have been brave and gone for it??? They do take a certain amount of courage but as my 84 year old mum says, wear them while you're still young enough! (I'm 50 but maybe she has a point??)
ReplyDeleteYears ago I had an egg yolk yellow top (a shade or three from orange) which garnered me loads of compliments but I don't think I'd have the courage today to wear it near my face. Love it, though our understairs loo was that headache-inducing acrid country house yellow and I couldn't wait to paint it, so perhaps it is a matter of having it in the right place at the right time.
ReplyDeleteOn me this brightly coloured trouser trend is a little too children's-tv-presenter. How do I counteract that?
As a blonde, it's hard to wear citrus-y yellow, but that soft vintage mashed banana yellow is a favourite shade summer or winter!
