People, I've found the best place to see all the autumn trends - it's the Black Market Clash exhibition and pop-up shop on Berwick Street. There's wall-to-wall bubblegum pink, a fine selection of biker and sleeveless jackets, as well as a smattering of camo print and tartan. All you need for the new season, set to a fabulous soundtrack. What more could the discerning shopper of a certain age want?
Growing up in seventies Britain, The Clash were (still are) my favourite band in the world, ever, and browsing the store yesterday, a combination of White Man in Hammersmith Palais, Paul Simonon's broken guitar and old photos of Joe Strummer brought tears of nostalgia to my eyes.
As well as old clothes, there's lots of other fantastic memorabilia - and the new remastered album of course. I'm even thinking of breaking one of the golden That's Not My Age rules and buying a tour t-shirt. Or perhaps I'll settle for a commemorative mug instead. What do you think?
The Clash. The most stylish band in the world, ever.

The Black Market Clash exhibition and pop-up is open until 22 September 2013.
What a wonderful find. I vote for the mug as you'll get more "wear" out of it. A few years ago (quite a few!) when my tween was a toddler, Zara was selling mini-sized black t-shirts with the London Calling cover screenprint. I could not convince him to wear it. The first time I gnashed teeth over his style choices.
ReplyDeleteI'd be tempted to get one of those tees too.
ReplyDeleteShreddies! I spent my teenage years eating those. Stylish yes (Joe Strummer is a god) but Mick Jones was a shocking dancer on stage. Did you ever listen to that Clash tribute album that came free with some music magazine ten years ago or so (Wire? Uncut?). Thea Gilmore singing I'm Not Down always cheers me up and makes me feel more resolute.
ReplyDeleteSad I'm missing this!
ReplyDeleteTHE CLASH.
ReplyDeleteRock The Casbah was for at least a decade my number 1 rock song of all time.
Hmm.
A tee.
I'm off to put The Clash on Right Now. Loud.
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm in that London on Friday, I might just have to pop in and have a look! x
ReplyDeleteBuy the t shirt if you want it! You can always wear it to bed if nothing else...
ReplyDeleteDiana - give it a couple of years and he'll be asking you to buy him a Clash t-shirt.
ReplyDeleteNancy - I didn't hear the tribute album but I still play The Clash (usually Give 'em Enough Rope) on my iPod on the way to work. Always helps me walk a bit quicker.
Vix - let me know if you do, I am going back to buy a t-shirt!
It feels like Pop up itself.
ReplyDeleteJust wow - I would always pump up White Man to high volume, and lie on the floor listening to it.
