There were lots of stylish movers and shakers at Iain R Webb's (IRW) book launch, back in May. I've told you before that I'm a late adopter, but over two months to post a fashion story, now that could be a record. Anyhow. A reader asked me recently for more photos of inspirational regular folks - like this gorgeous woman with her fabulous Pearly Queen jacket, graphic fancy pants and chic white hair. An absolute vision in monochrome. And, here's Iain R signing copies of his book. He's a super-talented writer and editor and so, at the launch party, the new tome swiftly sold out. I must find a copy soon - my attempt to read more books this year has faltered, and as the power of the blog pulls me in on a summer Sunday morning, I realise why. As seen in BLITZ: fashioning '80s style is written by IRW (Blitz magazine's fashion editor at the time) and documents eighties culture, fashion and DIY style, with archive magazine content and interviews.
It's just brilliant to see that the great and the good of the 1980s fashion world are still dressing up today. And I'd have more photos but the lighting at the ICA together with the free bar played havoc with my camera skills:

What with the Club to Catwalk exhibition at the V&A and this new (ish) book, I'm having a bit of an eighties fashion moment.
And here's a fantastic blog post Iain R wrote for me on Fashion beyond Forty - plus you can follow him on HOPEANDGLITTER.
Love the jacket and the 80's memories that you have triggered!
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a fun event...today I turn 60 and I am thinking I need a statement jacket to go along with it!! My reading is behind as well..but I am trying not to let that bother me!!
ReplyDeleteIt is great to see so many attractive women, some with white hair!
