Oh my god, I wore sandals like that in the early 70s - on sufferance, I hated them. There is no way on God's Green Earth that I would go there again ...
I think they look great, I bought similar ones in Buenos Aires in blue patent leather about 7 years ago and they were complimented on whenever I wore them. Great for running around in and looking good at the same time.
Oh wow, I remember sandals like that from my childhood. The trouble is that these probably look very cool on a 20-year-old hipster but might look very granny on me...?
Read the article about the "death of the fascinator" in the Guardian yesterday. Have to say though that going by the picture with the article, the head gear was the least of their problems...meow!!! xo
The top ones are the same style as Clarks used to make when I was a kid. If they're comfy, would love some again! I'm thinking they would look cute with bf jeans (I have) or denim minis (I don't have the legs). Nice alternative to strappy/thongy sandals.
I wore these in the sixties (clarks), then in the eighties(clarks) in gold with elastic instead of buckle. I will not be wearing them in 2013! But even my 25 year old twin daughters would dislike them. Sop raiding the archives and design something new!
Ummm, I'm with just about very one else on this. Wore them once at a much younger age and they really weren't that great then. Now I could handle some nice Huaraches, but these don't do it for me. The bottom style just looks awkward-are they heels or flats? I could see maybe with a heel on a 20something. Maybe.
Now those are comfortable sandals! They'd probably look funky-cool on a tall slim someone. Someone of my non-tall, non-slimness had probably better walk away. . . Besides, I'm pretty addicted to my Birk Gizehs. . .
I was going to say I really, really like them. But,I've read the other comments and feel a bit defensive now. They're fab in a Margaret Howell sort of way.
My 25 yr old daughter has been searching for these sandals!! Now I know who makes them. They would look pretty dreadful on my skinny-ankled self, but she would look amazing in them.
Memories of primary school! I'm not sure about these on me, but if they looked good - I'd wear them! I tend to favour something with a bit more of a heel so that my legs look, erm, less 'prop-forward' :-D

ReplyDeleteJust wonderful - they look pretty amazing to me... would not be surprised if Margaret Howell did a collaboration. S x

ReplyDeleteHm, I have to say I don't find them flattering at all...

ReplyDeleteCan't beat a flat sandal - Toast have got some similar but those Church's ones look uber fab x

I think the "fisherman" sandal is gorgeous! I'm a fan.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love those kilties!!

ReplyDeleteFor someone who had to wear built-up shoes fro years it's a massive no! Ugly, orthopaedic and frump-tastic. xxx
ReplyDeleteI too wore those style sandals way back in the day and they were so comfortable. I might just try them again.

ReplyDeleteMmm. I wore something like these to Catholic school. And, actually, I really like the blue ones for travel, perhaps.

I was just remembering the "fisherman's sandals" I wore in the very early 80s. I felt so stylish. I'd do it again.
