Who better to wear this season's monochrome trend than sixties model Peggy Moffitt? The modtastic 72-year-old has been photographed by Tim Walker for the latest issue of Love magazine. With her trademark five-point cut and heavy eye make up, Moffitt makes the perfect mannequin. In a combination of vintage Rudi Gernreich clothes and spring/summer 2013 designer gear, this model is still swinging in her seventies. Confirming my strong belief that you don't have to have youth to have style.
There's a fantastic video on Nowness of Moffitt discussing her career. Of the legendary, topless monokini photo, she says, 'Think of something in your life that took one-sixtieth of a second to do. Now, imagine having to spend the rest of your life talking about it. I think it's a beautiful photograph, but, oh, am I tired of talking about it.'
I'll say no more.
Wow, she certainly has a very strong look and looks striking in these photos. Not sure about the heavy eye makeup, but hey, it's obviously not meant for walking down the local high street in Wolverhampton ;-) Amazing pics! xo
ReplyDeletelove love love her!!! the thing is - there are plenty of younger models that I just dont aspire to at all and i look at someone like her and think - oh to be just as cool as her at that age.

She looks incredible - like June Brown aka Dot Cotton, on acid. I really hope that when I get to her age, I have even just a fraction of her, f*** it' attitude.

ReplyDeleteMixed feelings. I'm not a fan of the "clown" look on any age, so while I appreciate her style, it's just not a look I love. Has nothing to do with her age, but I do love this series.

ReplyDeletePeggy's message is to be true to yourself no matter what your age. She carries confidence by the pail-full and has in fact always looked this way. A problem for most of us is finding who that person is, or at least what she looks like. We may never, but kudos to those who do.

Not meaning, that a woman over 70 should be invisible, but these pictures are not to my liking.
I didn't like these clown looks back in the 60s and I haven't warmed up to them all these years later.

I think she looks fab in every way except for those gormless modelly doll-head expressions, which look ridiculous on women of all ages. There was a lot of faux-surprised face and faux-baby face going around in the 60s and maybe that's the sort of thing they were looking for here.

You and me: same page! Just saw the fantastic viddy of Peggy this more over at Nowness- so inspirational on many, generational levels. And these pics of her at 72 are just as inspiring as the ones of her in her youth. I love how unique she is, how timeless her drama.
