Dresses with sleeves: the Golden Globes 2013

Homeland star, Morenna Beccarin.

As well as awards for television drama Homeland and Damien Lewis, I was delighted to see an outbreak of Dresses With Sleeves on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.

Julianne Moore in Tom Ford.

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka.
Naomi Watts in Zac Posen.
Winner of the Best Song Award: Adele.

More everyday dresses with sleeves coming soon.

  1. Oh good! They all look gorgeous, elegant and sophisticated. It would be great to see more of this kind of dressing - sexy without having to show acres of skin. Though I can't see this trend ever catching on in Newcastle... ;-) xo

  3. My favorites last night were Julianne Moore, Helen Mirren, and Sally Field ...all looked amazing and ten years younger than their actual ages!

  5. Lovely trend- we can only hope it is one!
So tired of strapless dresses- a look that is good on maybe three people in the world.

  6. I'm glad to see it too because honestly it was cold as s*&t here yesterday. Seeing the backless, strapless RC looks just made me shiver.

  8. Fabulous gowns. But didn't some of them get the memo and out the Angelina Jolie "one leg" dress? Several goofy looks there!
I love the ones you chose.

  9. If someone cannot look good on the red carpet with all the stylists and makeup artists then where could you possibly look good>? The only dress I think is flattering is the Zac Posen. A problem may be that when a designer offers to GIVE you a dress it is hard to turn it down so they have to try to make it work. I never have an occassion to wear a dress like that so have no idea how hard it would be to choose something that would look red carpet worthy.

  11. i did not watch the golden globes but wow, all these women and their dresses are just beautiful.

i'm thinking you need to start a clothing label. dresses with sleeves that are the right length would be a good start. yes!

  19. These are fab-u-lous. May I please steal the idea if I link back to you? Please, pleese. . .

Brilliant post for those of us who want the glamour but don't necessarily have the arms for baring. In a way these gowns look refreshingly different.

You know what a fan I am of yours.

  22. California is having a cold snap so out come the sleeves. A welcome and elegant response to weather. Interesting how restrictions create positive outcomes.

  23. Designers and manufacturers: Heed this wonderful post! I've seen women in their 30s in the fitting room bemoaning their "flabby" arms. Truth be told, unless you are a body builder, Madonna or Michelle Obama, there will be jiggle. Even that tight, taut bicep doesn't look good on everyone (SJP you know who you are).
