Sweet Sixty

So, I've been bumping into gorgeous sixty-somethings all week. If there's one thing that puts the ageing process into perspective, it's meeting an older woman with sparkle and vitality. This is Chloe Lonsdale and her charming, 62-year-old mum, Chekkie. To coincide with London Fashion Week, the denim label MiH (Made in Heaven) jeans has turned the gallery space at Anthropologie, King's Road into a store. Which is where I met Chloe (the MiH founder) and Chekkie (who couldn't believe that I seriously wanted to take her photo for my blog). Here are mother and daughter looking lovely in matching leather jackets. A coincidence, not a sinister marketing ploy. Checking that I'm not wearing the same outfit as my mum is a problem I never envisage having, ever, but that's another story.

Back in the early seventies, Chekkie modelled for the denim brand Jean Machine (see photos below). 'Imagine growing up with a mum that every guy in your class fancies,' mused Chloe, 'Actually, what am I saying, I still have to put up with it 30 years later!' Another problem I'll never have, but where was I... oh yes, the pop-up MiH store is on the site of a former Jean Machine's shop. Another coincidence, but this one was intentional.

Any doubts I was having about looking fab in my sixties were swiftly assuaged by Chekkie, 'Your 40s are neither one thing nor the other - you're not young, you're not old. Being in your 50s is good, but 60s are even better.' Glad we've got that sorted, now at least I have something to look forward to.

And, in case you were wondering, my pick of the MiH collection is this lovely Aztec woven jacket, which obviously would look fantastic with jeans:

  1. I love the mother/daughter photos and knowing that Chekkie was a jeans model. Would have loved to see a pic of her back in the day.

  2. Chekkie definitely does not have to hide behind her daughter.
She seems to have the right attitude; her inside shows on her outside.
And she is so right, don´t worry about your 40´s, the menopause might cause some difficulties, but help can be found.
I´d like to see the jacket on you!

  3. As I'm going to be turning 60 this year, I was so happy to see this post, and Chekkie. As Mette said, her beautiful inside, shows on her outside. Love the Aztec jacket, and I'd like to see a photo of it on someone too.

  7. That woman looks seriously cool. She's always been cool though, you can tell!

I dread the thought of wearing the same clothes as my mother. She keeps sending me little things down that are so reminiscent of Bridget Jones Diary Mum Clothes that they go straight out to charity shop!

    Love the little jacket!

  9. Wow! what a fabulous looking Mother Daughter duo. Thanks for sharing this post ... as someone who had no problem with turning 25, 30, 35, 40 - as I make my way to the latter 40s I'am feeling a bit overwhelmed... so it was nice to see ... this. xo HHL

  12. Well this sounds good - won't worry too much about being in my sixties then. Fifties are ok I suppose but if there is better to come then fantastic! And what a wonderful looking mother and daughter! Jacket looks great too - have you tried their jeans? x and p.s. hate to say it but I remember the brand Jean Machine very well!

  13. I'll be 60 next year (not yet 59 for a few months, but it's coming. . . ), so it's inspiring to see someone who finds the decade doesn't interfere with happiness and style. I must say, I've quite enjoyed the 50s and would be quite happy to stop here a while longer . . . but if Chekkie says the 60s are even better, well, I'll give them a try ;-)

  15. Yep I too will be hitting 60 in a few months and agree with Chekkie about your 40's 50's and 60's. I'm defiantly not fearful of the next decade after all age truly is a state of mind!

  16. Now I'm depressed. I have never sunbathed or used much make up, I am careful about the products with which I nourish my skin and I am closer to 40 than 60......50+ will do........but I feel that, in comparison, I make Chekkie look even more of a "spring chicken"!
    Bon weekend
