That's Not My Underwear
Today is National Underwear Day, who knew? Apparently it's been going since 2003, which was probably the last time I actually bought new underwear. Talking of which, a recent survey by Freya Lingerie declared that almost 50% of women neglect their undies - mmm...that includes me I thought shamefacedly, as I skimmed through the statistics - they only purchase pants once every five months! Seriously, compared to my buying habits that's pretty damn frequent. Carrying out some research of my own, I asked Mr That's Not My Age what he thought of my underwear. 'Dunno,' shrugged the Blog Widower, too polite or too underwhelmed to comment.
So as M&S have declared this is a 'day to really look at your underwear drawer,'
here's a selection of gorgeous lingerie, the kind of thing I'd own if I wasn't such a slovenly shopper. The stunning lace set (above) is from Rigby & Peller. The bra-flashing-Carine-Roitfeld-dominatrix-look is totally au courrant, don't you think?
Hanro's new Ginger collection is a 1950s design taken from the company's fabulous archive. The range is 100% silk with a lovely lace trim and it's available mid October. Pretty, eh?
This floral set is from the latest Collette Dinnigan range for M&S:
That's Not My Age loves big pants. These fifties-inspired, shape shifters are from the Curve collection by elomi.
So go on tell me - how often do you buy new lingerie?
Every couple of months and fitted every six months but that's because 1. I'm a trained bra fitter and 2. because any clothes look a hundred times better when your underwear fits well.
ReplyDeleteFairly often, as my norks need support. Sadly, that means it's usually more scaffolding rather than scalloped lace.
ReplyDeleteDid laugh at Mr TNMA's 'dunno' though.
liking the look of the Colette Dinnigan - she did one for them once before as did Agent Provocateur!
ReplyDeleteliking the look of the Colette Dinnigan - she did a range for them a few years ago - along with one from Agent Provocateur whcih was gorgeous - wish M&S did more pretty bras without any padding - they all seem to have it and I have enough of my own!
ReplyDeleteLoving the Hanro collection, and the pretty florals below it. But I'm a fairly lazy underwear shopper; it's all clean and neat but not nearly as pretty as all this : >

ReplyDeleteOh, nice post.)) Love your blog!!!.))))))
I need your help ... Soon I am flying to Greece and I will have a two-day shopping in Athens .. You were there ever? If yes, what places you advise?
♥
I like Hanro and Chantelle for everyday basics and stock up in fenwicks about every 6 months- very pleasant, trained fitters. In between I buy pretty ,frivolous things.
ReplyDeleteYou are making me laugh again. I feel a little shameful now too. Even more so after little bird's and Caroline's comments. Thats it time for new undies. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteMore like once a year. The trick is: dark colors and fabrics that don't show wear/discoloration so quickly! Even though I don't go for the frilly stuff (it tends to show under clothes), I do hate dreary-looking underwear.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I laughed at "dunno," too. Oh, our poor spouses! What they put up with......
I think the 1950's inspiration is so sexy! Gives a peek but leaves somethings to the imagination
ReplyDeletei so love all this underwear.. although my husband sadly likes it more in your face tart .. for me though this is sexier and more comfortable xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lingerie! I don't buy frequently, but I do have a deep collection of vintage lingerie!
ReplyDeleteCripes I buy it maybe every two years or so! Only when the old stuff turns grey and holey
ReplyDeleteNot often enough methinks. I changed in public changing rooms this week and felt like the Cinders of the undies world, plain, black and drab compared to the lacy glamour all around me. Time to shop.
ReplyDeleteI go through phases - mine always matches, but it's usually dull and functional. Can't remember the last time I was fitted (circa 1990?). Must stir myself to buy some pretty stuff ...
ReplyDeleteI like that undies, definitely great in styles.
ReplyDeleteMy wife loves shopping for underwear. In fact, every month, she purchases one set of undies. Anyway, I like the second photo, the Ginger collection, for my wife. I think that would fit her pretty nicely.
