Quote of the week: Franca Sozzani

OK I made a mistake. But like Zoe Beresford on The Apprentice, admitting I'm wrong is a clever tactic, impossible to dispute and guaranteed to keep me in the game. Ain't that right, Lord Sugar? After wondering whether the use of curvy models in their underwear on the latest issue of Italian Vogue was a cop-out (can't find clothes to fit? Don't wear any!), That's Not My Age listened to editor, Franca Sozzani discussing the concept behind the front cover, on Woman's Hour today:

'The idea is to say that curvy is not a problem it's very sexy. I think, when I see women like Nigella with shoulders, boobs and hips, they are beautiful. Stunning. They are sexy. To put that on the runway is very healthy.

This is our moment, it means we have to push people to understand that a body with shape is better than tiny, skinny girls. Who dreams of being like a teenager? The model is not the only prototype for women. To have freedom to be as you are, to use your body as it is, it's very positive.'

Sozzani obviously didn't see Nigella in her burkini. We've had the black issue and the curvy issue - can't wait for Italian Vogue's wrinkly issue.

Listen to the full interview here. Caryn Franklin from All Walks Beyond The Catwalk and Carole White from Premier Models are also on the show.

  3. I know she's a tiny little woman, but Franca is my role model for hair! She rocks the blond fuzzy look I am going for.

I don't agree with her that one body type is "better" but I am all for diversity on the cover of the world's famous fashion mags.

  5. I heard the programme too, I was a little sad to hear that as skinny helps the clothes 'hang' better they are unlikely ever to change the type of models on the catwalk. I'm sure they'd change if someone else showed them it could be done - with profits.

God how I wish wrinkles were 'having a moment'!
