Now here's a Friday treat. For spring/summer 2012 Mary Portas has fine-tuned her fashion line. Whilst I liked the idea of the first range, there were a few random pieces - like the black jodphurs with grey suedette patches and an inexpensive-looking animal print sweater - that felt more Grazia than grown-up to me. Her second collection (apart from the, ahem, leatherette pencil skirt) feels much more cohesive. The Queen of Shops has consolidated her strong points and come up with a fine selection of - dare I say it, Diane von Furstenberg-inspired, printed dresses and some Portastic footwear.
Oh and a little bird told me there's a range of fancy pants - key trouser shapes in 10 different prints - coming soon.
What do you think of the new Mary Portas range? And has anyone bought anything from Mary & House of Fraser?
I have to admit, that Mary Portas designs don´t ring a bell to me at all.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures show clothes, that don´t appeal to me. I´d have to see more in person to give a true opinion.
I really like the print of the second dress, and the color blocking in the last outfit. But I don't think I can find Mary Portas here in Florida -- maybe when I visit NYC?
ReplyDeleteI love what I've seen of her clothes and wish someone were doing what she is trying to for all That'sNotMyAge appropriate women here in America. We seem to do well with casual but not work appropriate, dressing up, etc. I think her looks are genius.

ReplyDeleteLike the blue and white and turquoise tunics. I can see those in the South of France next Summer. So far have only bought the Lace armoury sleeves.
ReplyDeleteLooks good. I agree about the random pieces this season, although its not always easy to tell when just looking online. I hope hemlines are not quite as short next season, we haven't all got Mary's figure and she is the first to say we don't want to dress like our daughters.
ReplyDeleteSorry, those floral tent things that pass as dresses? Not for me thanks. I am not shaped like Mary. The top would swamp me and it would be snug around the butt. No, no, no. Much as I like Mary and her ideas, her clothes are way off the mark for me.

I'm a fan of Mary's TV programmes where I enjoy her no nonsense advice to shopkeepers. But I don't like these clothes.. Perhaps because, at 5'3", I'd look knee high to a grasshopper in such shapeless items!
ReplyDeleteRosemary & hausfrau - Oh I completely agree, some of the styles only work if you have a Mary Portas figure, but the collection includes tailoring too. I just focused on the dresses because I think that's what she does best.
