Coloured Denim

Yep, coloured denim is hanging around like Silvio Berlusconi at an 18-year-old's birthday party - but don't be alarmed, this is good news. I grew fondly attached to my hot pants over summer and am not ready to chuck them just yet. Oh no. They're going to help ease me gently into autumn.

This season I'll mostly be wearing them with a mannish jacket or a lightweight v-neck jumper, and eventually my old overcoat. The yellow pair from Boden could be the dollop of mustard I've been looking for to perk up my nearly neutral wardrobe. And I like the idea of the red Jaeger trews with the flat ankle boots - though I was alarmed to see the Sunday Times call these 'Flankles' yesterday. A fashion hybrid too far, don't you think?

If you're still not sure about coloured jeans, click here for my advice on how to wear them.

  3. I still love the red ones I bought about six months ago - they were most cheering in winter (worn mostly with camel or khaki) and I think they'll get a few outings this spring also. Those yellow ones are gorgeous.

  5. That mustard pair is so pretty. I picked up a pair of burnt orange/rust corduroy ankle pants and have been plotting out different looks.

"flankles"? really? This whole hybrid naming is starting to get silly.

  6. I love both looks but will probably pick up a red pair, and soon!

  7. ooh, I love the color of the mustard jeans. I've sampled a pair of red and yellow and just yesterday thrifted a pair of green ones.

  8. I almost bought a pair of burgundy cords this weekend, but ended up with a toffee-coloured pair (the Sales Assistant called them cognac, but I'm going with toffee). Seemed like a reasonable compromise, given I've been trying to tone down a bit. Still hankering after the mustard-yellow ones that were, sadly, in too low a rise . . .
These are great examples you've tracked down for us here. Someday, when I get down to a "nearly neutral wardrobe," maybe I can amp it up with something like these. ;-)

  12. ok ok...nobody but nobody I know besides myself uses the palabra (word) trews to describe a pair of trew-sers so what gives? I am in utter shock - in a good way. Shock, nonetheless. Do you possibly spend hours with your nose in the dictionary, too?

    Love from Oregon USA,

  13. Great opening line about Berlusconi!!!
Love the mustard Boden ones. I'm thinking of some coloured 70s style cords from J Crew - purple or burgundy - for this autumn.

  14. I enjoy bright colors ( red, orange, even yellow ) on men with character, but would not wear a pair of them myself.
