Banana Republic Mad Men Collection

Don't know about you, but lately I've been missing Mad Men. Let's be honest - in spite of some top-notch acting - The Hour just didn't cut it. I blame the script. And, now that Sky Atlantic have nabbed series five, Mr & Mrs That's Not My Age will have to wait for the Mad Men box set. But that's OK, we love a box set. Staying in for a three-episode bender is a grown-up way to spend a Saturday night. In the mean time, Banana Republic have launched a collection designed by Janie Bryant, the costume designer for the show - so should the mood take me, at least I can dress like Betty Draper.

What do you think of the collection? Will you be going all Madison Avenue this autumn?

Available in store and online now.

  1. I am so glad to hear we are not the only ones spending our Saturday evening on Mad Men benders! Will Sky Atlantic be showing it then? Sorry, we are new here (in the UK). I cannot figure out the evil TV systems.

  2. I just started watching The Hour and I agree - it's very good, but not even close to MM, as far as must-see-TV. I like the BR line, but it's a bit too dressy for my lifestyle. I'll pick and choose a couple of pieces, no doubt : >

  3. It's just about my favorite show, but I was disappointed in the BR Mad Men collection. I had high hopes for that leopard sweater, but the fabric is dish-raggy. The one red/orange full-skirted dress is nice, in a silky fabric, but the rest is just "meh" to me.

  5. I'm not sure how these things will look with my own Joan-type bust

The top outfit will look ok on me, but I fear I will look a bit frumpy in the rest ;-)

    Lovely, lovely clothes though!

  6. I'm also a fan of the box-set and glad to hear we're not the only ones guilty of a 3-episode bender (might even have been a 4, once upon a Lost time).
I love this look, but the clothes are probably too urban/office for my lifestyle. Plus I just bought those boots, thus sucking up a huge portion of my wardrobe acquisition budget. I like that early 60s "clean" look's influence, though, and will take some inspiration from it. The simple palette and delineated geometries are appealing to me, although probably better suited to a taller, leaner figure than mine.

  7. I am totally out from all TV-series, having not watched TV for over 2,5 years. True, but possible.
About the clothes - I don´t like them. Could not imagine where I´d wear them. Sorry.

  8. Elizabeth - yes, on pay-per-view. Boo!

DP - oh that's disappointing. The leopard sweater is my favourite - I saw a small collection at the press day and it looked fine. I'm going to have to get up close and personal with the real thing.

Ali - the dress would look good on your Joanie figure,no?

Materfamilias - Fantastic. I think we might even have had a four-episode Sopranos binge. Yes, the simple shapes and palette are appealing.

Metscan - that is impressive. Aren't you even tempted by a box set?

  16. Missing MM too. But I prefer the box sets so we can watch them all in a week or so, and not have to wait between each episode. I think I might sneak a few pieces from this collection into my winter wardrobe, looks pretty nice.
