David Bowie Is... Back!

By now you've probably all heard the new David Bowie song - I never said I was going to bring you breaking news and all the latest international stories, now, did I? To celebrate his 66th birthday, Bowie has released a new song, Where Are We Now? And I love it. Quite beautiful and melancholy,  His Lordship croons about the old 1970s Berlin Days. Here's the video:

And here's a gorgeous picture of Bowie with his wife, Iman. Did you know Iman's got a blog?! Just had a quick read and am impressed by her thriftiness. In one post on New Year's resolutions the model and CEO of IMAN Cosmetics admits, 'I don't like to throw money away, even with my Bowie Budget.'

One of the things I'm really excited about this year, is the David Bowie Is exhibition at the V&A. Well, that and my trip to the top of The Shard in February, a Christmas present from the Blog Widower. Anyhow. The museum has been given 'unprecedented access to The David Bowie Archive' and will be showing a collection of the legendary artist's handwritten lyrics, videos, costumes and nick-nackery. Can't wait.

What do you think of Where Are We Now? Was it worth the 10-year wait?

  1. Will have to listen after I get home tonight. But the exhibit sounds like great fun! If it's still up in May will have to make a point to see it.

  2. I was in Berlin before the wall came down. Ka De We - I remember.. Impressive.
However, I think I rocked my babies when Bowie was rocking on the Top.
Great picture of the pair. I didn´t even know they are married - now where have I been all the years???

  3. Well, thank you because this was my first opportunity to hear it. I have actually been reduced to tears. I think the video really did it for me, it is so personal. I can imagine in a stadium and 20,000 people singing along I'd be a sobbing wreck.
Very much interested in him as creative person so V&A is on my calendar.

  4. Will have to listen to it again though right now it goes straight to the album "music to hang yourself by" - maybe I'm just in the mood for something more upbeat as I usually really love David Bowie.

The bag, however, HAVE TO HAVE IT!!! Could replace my "I <3 Yorkshire Tea" one...don't ask... ;-)

  6. Funnily enough, I've just managed to sneak a little Bowie into a post.
He is the very epitome of cool, is he not?

  12. Such a welcome comeback... and his eyebrows are exactly where they used to be (as is the rest of his fave) which makes such a refreshing change.

  13. My husband was playing this yesterday in another room and I though it was Bryan Ferry. Neither of them can sing. Sad.

  14. So worth the wait. It reminds me of the last Johnny Cash single, melancholic and whistful, not trying to be down with the kids. Maybe all the fuss is because we are grateful he can still knock out a good tune. Looking forward to the V & A exhibit.

  15. Lesley - I haven't heard any of Ferry's recent stuff but do quite like the fragility of Bowie's voice in Where Are We Now? Think it might be his swansong though...

  16. I heard the tail end of this on the radio, and loved it, before the announcer said it was Bowie. Thanks for posting the video.
