As Mr That's Not My Age prepares to leave the building and I try to simultaneously get ready and knock out another blog post, it strikes me that Iris Apfel's advice to young women applies to us all:
'I think they should open their minds and their eyes, and stop pressing buttons so much (at this juncture the Blog Widower tuts loudly and tells me to step away from the computer), 'I think they should learn who they are and not try to fit into a mould that some magazine editor tells them they have to be. The world’s a big place, sniff it all out.'
I'm off to explore the real world. Have you got the social networking balance right?

You pose a very interesting an timely question. I have been thinking of this and now I switch off my computer and head to my studio for the day, checking emails at lunch time only.
ReplyDeleteLove the image you post, a woman of substance
Helen xx
As you may suspect, I love everything about Iris Apfel. We not-so-young-uns need someone to look up to as well! She proves she has Style inside and out.
ReplyDeleteHear hear! True words of wisdom there. I've been offline all weekend and my mobile isn't internet enabled so yes, I think I'm alright. x
ReplyDeletei think vix is the younger version of iris.:)
ReplyDeletei do not have my social networking in balance. i am working on it though.
i don't even have a cellphone but this damn laptop is attached to my lap it seems. ugh.
Great advice of which I am "trying" to follow x
ReplyDeleteNot having the wherewithall to remember to charge my appliance batteries is a great limiting factor in my social networking activities.
ReplyDeleteI spend so much time with just the blog and the email that I have little to no time with Twitter, FB, Pinterest, Instagram, etc. etc. But, I refuse to let that bother me!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem as Pam. But we're told we need to do the social networking to help get followers to our blogs. I need someone to help me prioritize.

ReplyDeleteTwitter sounds like a basic nightmare. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and all the rest of it sounds boring to me. I see people out shopping with their head in their phones and I just wonder what is so fascinating unless a romantic involvement. Anything else can wait.
ReplyDeleteNot always balanced. But try to be. Hope you enjoyed your venture into the real world. Xxxx
ReplyDeletethe gardener's cottage - agree. Vix does her own thing and doesn't worry about what other people think, just like Iris.
ReplyDeleteWally B - I hear you!
Pam & Maryl - it's so hard to keep on top of everything. People keep telling me I should be on Instagram but I think one more social networking platform (or whatever you call it?!) might tip me over the edge.
Angele - when I see people in bars or restaurants with their mobile phones out on the table, I often think the same thing. What can be so important? Put it away and enjoy yourself!
My husband is clucking in the background even as I type this. Balance? It's all relative. I do my best and let the chips fall. It's a moving target. :-)
ReplyDeleteI quote that Iris heavily. Love her attitude and style!
