That's Not My Age is a late adopter and proud. It's one of the good things about getting on a bit. No pressure to be the first to discover new stuff, just let the rest of the blogosphere blog itself into a frenzy, wait a few weeks, then stick your oar in. And so, I'd like to talk about Marc Jacobs, 47, in drag (on the cover of the latest Industrie magazine, shot by Patrick Demarchelier and styled by Katie Grand). That's Not My Age quite likes a man in a dress; The Stones in Have You Seen Your Mother Baby? Bowie on the cover of The Man Who Fell To Earth, Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie, it's probably got something to do with growing up in the eighties. Men wore make-up and fancy clothes. End of.
Anyway, there are two things I'd like to say about, Mrs Jacobs. He/she looks better in Katie Grand's clothes than smug, naked and oily in the ad for Bang:

In fact, I preferred Jacobs when he was grungy, on drugs and didn't go to the gym. And secondly, he looks a bit like George Best in this picture. And that is not a bad thing.

What do you think?
I think he looks a bit like Russell Brand. Which is also Not A Bad Thing.
ReplyDeleterussell Brand, yes, i can see it!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is about Marc but for some reason I'll take him either way, proper dress or mylar and oiled up. What is with me and Marc?
ReplyDeleteI agree with LPC, looks like Russell Brand! My second thought was great toned legs...
ReplyDeleteI am with you I preferred him a little grungy ...I adored George Best xx
ReplyDeleteI didn't like him all greased up either *shudder*, much better dressed as a laydeh.
ReplyDeleteHe just looks so pretty in that close up. His hair's lovely.
ReplyDeleteI do agree, there is something a little wrong about the Bang advert. Oily men are never appealing - Peter Andre being the best example.
ReplyDeleteA dead ringer for George Best. And yes, the oiled up like a roasting chicken on a bed of aluminum was a muffled cry for help on the path to discovering his mortality. (And don't we all know how that feels?)
ReplyDeleteI also like him better grungy, but Wow how great are his legs!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great cover and I love the clothes. Not sure about the brown eyeshadow though, I'd have put a colour on him. I bet they had fun doing it as those two get on so well xx
ReplyDeleteLPC - Russell Brand, yes.
ReplyDeleteMiss Whistle - yes, but I wouldn't do greasy naked pictures!
Christina - It is great, I quite like the subtle-ish brown eyeshadow nothing too garish now!
Marc is a great looking guy but oiled up - eeew!
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of Russell Brand so the drag isn't doing it for me either.
I'm so glad there are sane bloggers like yourself out there who as you say sit back and let the rest of the blogosphere work itself into a frenzy (H&M Lanvin - snore!) and take the time to post when they feel like it. Makes for more varied reading for the rest of us I think.
His ad for Bang (stupid name) is just shy of bad porn. I'm really disappointed in him. Nice to be in shape but to display it in this way is so contrary to his lovely indie roots. As for the cover, he looks more like John Galliano to me, he who also has dress-up fantasies going on. Thumbs down all the way.
ReplyDeleteVeshoevius - thanks, very kind of you to say. I'm not a Russell Brand fan either, he's funny but I can't quite understand the Hollywood success.
ReplyDeleteL'age moyen - always best to stick to your indie roots.
