Inspired by Lauren Hutton's easy style, the romance of seventies disco and the glory of glam rock, That's Not My Age recently felt the urge to buy a silk blouse. I've always been fond of sparkle, there's a healthy sprinkling of Lurex in my party drawer but a silk blouse isn't something I've ever considered. Until now. I came across the Gold Silk Blouse (GSB) at a vintage fair, upstairs at the local pub, classy eh? It's by a label I never thought I'd own, Escada. Shoulder pads, fucshia long-line jackets and ostentatious floral prints really aren't my thing. Anyhow, as you can see the nearly-new blouse is grown-up, glamorous and er, golden. To date, the GSB has joined forces with a pair of slim black pants - though as the ChloƩ catwalk picture shows, camel works just as well - and an old pair of jeans.

But I may even wear it with a skirt (pencil probably but the new fuller/midi shape could also be an option) and kitten heels. You see, the GSB has plenty of mileage and is well worth it's price tag, eight English pounds.
Like the commoner and the prince, the union of That's Not My Age and the slinky shirt is destined to last. And because you're never too old for animal print, I'm hoping when the sales come along to be the proud owner of grown-up blouse number two. Ooh does that mean there'll be three of us in the marriage?

Fortunately, it's a matt fabric and not a super-shiny, slippy silk like Keef's shirt, which is fine if you're a showbiz legend or a northern barmaid but I'm guessing it's not low-key enough for Lauren.

Do you own a big girl's blouse?

yep. I own a gold silk one with a pussycat bow (prefer that to pussy bow). Slightly more detail than yours, but njot quite as ponced-up as keef's
ReplyDeleteI use my husband´s. At he moment I am wearing a Cristian Dior pale yellow one that he bought, and never wears...I shall be posting it soon.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo my dear friend.

Great find. I have a silky bronze shirt from M&S last year. Its a little 'prim' but looks great teamed with jeans and high boots for added va va voom!
ReplyDeleteI have a few Escada things from the 80s - if you avoid the pink and florals, it is a great quality label.
ReplyDeleteI have one topaz blue one but don't wear it that much as I've realized it required for me to not sweat at all.... I may not be a big girl's after all and/or the white shirt may be more my thing!
ReplyDeleteNo I don't have one yet... after this post you know its been added to my list of "needs"....HHL
ReplyDeleteNo but I've been really thinking about getting one. I don't count my Ted Baker one with a bow on the back as it is too fashiony.
ReplyDeleteNow I need on in my life! Damn you TNMA xx
I do love a nice blouse and that one is fabulous. I've come across Escada at car boots before but never found something that appealed (bit too 80's for me) but I'd definately wear that one.
ReplyDeleteSkinny jeans, killer ankle boots, piles of blingy jewellery and a fake fur coat - rock chick chic. xxx
Ah yes, I have a soft pink silk big girl blouse from sometime in the 90's and I can't let go.It is a tailored Ann Taylor blouse. Every once and a while the long strand of pearls come out, I wrap them a few times, pop on the blouse and I feel great. There is something about that drapy feel...so luxurious. I also love cashmere over silk..heaven! I would love to find a gold blouse like the oneyou have shown...perfect colour and a keeper. Nice to see others have a weakness for them too :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post, thx!
Jeanne
I don't but you make me want to grow up and get one.
ReplyDeleteHi there-just adore your version, extreme value for money a real style investment-I may well try and thrift one!!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of Keef. I was very into blouses in the mid-'90s. I had royal blue, red and black silk blouses in the same style from Ann Taylor. But since then, I've decided that anything button-down doesn't look so great on me, so I avoid the look.
ReplyDelete`Liz McDonald` and `Bet Lynch`....hahahahaha....spot (or stripes) on!
ReplyDeleteLe Club du Style - the sweat factor is a problem with silk, and the reason I don't wear it much at all.
ReplyDeleteMyStyle - you are thrifting queen, I'm sure you'll find something fabulous.
Nana Go-Go - glad someone appreciated the joke!
I have a vintage silk Gianfranco Ferre. Very floaty. It is cream not gold though. But it is a big girls blouse. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteYour blouse is beautiful! I love that Chloe look and Lauren always looks effortless xx
ReplyDeleteI own a couple of silk blouses, but not a "big girl's" blouse. Yours it a lovely color.
ReplyDeleteHello TNMA - no I don't own a BGB -you have inspired me - maybe I should? Love yours and what a bargain. You are always inspiring me - just working on the summer look with khaki and leopard atm. (From a post you did about winter leopard and khaki) Ordered good chino pants from wait for it... LANDS END!! (their new line - Canvas - but from the USA - much bigger choice). Great post. x
ReplyDeleteI have quite a few silk blouses, but mostly silk chiffon rather than shiny silk. Now I suddenly feel the need for shine ...
ReplyDeleteI would wear one every day if I could! Am actually wearing this one today and I can highly recommend it :D
ReplyDeleteGorgeous blouse - what a great find. I've got a sheer black blouse but that's all. xx

ReplyDeleteI love yours I just love that whole Chloe look this season xx
Yes I do ... and when I am confused as to what to wear or things just aren't working, I go back to the silk blouse - reliable and understated.
ReplyDeleteI would love to own many of Tucker's big girl blouses if I could afford it!
