Whilst politicians are getting younger (for the first time in my life, I am older than the leaders of our three main political parties), That's Not My Age is pleased to see that models are getting older. Like the gentleman in lifestyle brand, Toast's new menswear campaign (above).

The autumn issue of Vogue Hommes International is dedicated to groovy old men.

International gentleman, Bryan Ferry reclines on the cover of Fantastic Man - and is about to release a new solo album Olympia. Just try not to think about the fox-hunting.

Sorry can't stop there, I'm on a roll. Let's have some more groovy older men....There's only one Sir Paul as far as I'm concerned, and his surname is Smith. The British designer recently launched a cyclewear range in collaboration with Rapha.

The world might be in love with Don Draper but as we watch one man's life slowly unravelling, silver swinger, Roger Stirling (actor, John Slattery) downs another Martini and goes home to his wife.

Mr Gil Scott Heron. Because his latest album is ace and he still thinks that a CD is an investment. And that, my friends, makes two of us. Well three, actually...

Mr TNMA nipped out the other day and returned with the new Ronnie Wood album hidden in his coat pocket. The art work is terrible but this is not as I suspected the sound of a mid-life-crisis. Surprisingly, there are a couple of really good tracks, one of which features Kris Kristofferson.

Still grooving. Two weeks and counting till Mr Keith Richards' autobiography is published.
And I'll leave you with the words of Pablo Picasso, 'Age only matters when we are ageing. Now that I have arrived at a great age, I might as well be 20.'
Can you think of any other groovy older men?

I think it's great that they are using older men as models. And 'unconventional' men too such as the man in the French Connection ads. However, as for groovy older men I would have to say my favourite is Ray Davies of The Kinks. Swoon.... My first crush! x
ReplyDeleteThat was refreshing to see, being older than our political leaders has made me feel old, just doesn't seem right.
ReplyDeleteSE - oh yes, I like the man in the French Connection ad
ReplyDeleteGo the Silver Fox!
ReplyDeleteWowsa! Love this post. My favorite older guy is Daniel Day-Lewis. We are soul mates...he just doesn't know it yet. : )
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic post!!! I hope that this trend of using age appropriate models (male and female) is here to stay as a woman who has reached the 40s I do not like to see teen and early 20s models being used to prompt wrinkle cream....
ReplyDeleteHHL
Wonderful words by you and Picasso, i couldn´t agree more. Age is a plus.
ReplyDeleteYou are inspiring my frien, and so are they!!!! he, he, he

Great post! I've had longstanding crushes on David Dimbleby, David Attenborough and Michael Palin.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your comments and suggestions - think I might post another bunch of groovy old men next week!
ReplyDeleteI also got a shock when I realised that the PM and others are all younger than me. I even asked my dentist the other day if he is old enought to be a dentist!! I still adore Bryan Ferry except for the fact that his girlfriends are getting younger as he ages. That doesn't seem quite right.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Yes, please do another next week!!
ReplyDeleteYou missed Alan Rickman - what an ommission! Definitely make this a regular feature, sure it'll be very popular! xx

Hmmm, maybe I can pimp MrB out as a model and finally make the big bucks.
ReplyDeleteStruggling to get my head around the idea that Daniel Day-Lewis might be an older man (how old is he?), but Connery and your collection certainly.. and if they don't have to be alive Cary Grant always gets my vote as the height of cool.
ReplyDeleteMy word verification is hozzi...
Oh yes, Alan Rickman too for me. Also- wonder how long it will take for the women's editions of Vogue to feature an all-older women cast in their pages...
ReplyDeleteDaniel Day-Lewis is 53 - does that count?
ReplyDeleteHow about Sam Elliott?
That is the coolest tea towel!!
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of older men I like... I sat next to Alan Rickman at a dinner a little while ago and he was divine!! I could just sit and listen to him to talk.
I love Keith Richards (can't wait for the book - I have it on pre-order), Jeff Bridges, Bryan Ferry, Jack Nicholson, Gabriel Byrne, Gary Oldman, Daniel Day Lewis (although the last two aren't exactly old!). The list is endless. Hope you're well xx
I think the following could well be contenders for your list...
ReplyDeleteTerence Stamp, Dennis Haysbert, Richard James (Savile Row), John Malkovich, Malcolm McDowell, Michael Cain.
